Herpes...no sores?

I have had a rash for two months now. There are a number of little red bumps on the head of my penis. My doctor first told me it was likely a fungal infection and precribed clotrimazole and betamethasone cream. It has been a month with little improvement. I went back and he took blood for a herpes test. The test came back positive, but I have had oral herpes in the past so I believe that is why it came back positive. The bumps do not hurt, they aren't sores. I just wanted to know if genital herpes can manifest as just painless bumps rather than painful sores...?

oh btw, there is an ingredient in clotrimazole that can actually make you worse cause of one of the ingredients possibly irritating the skin. i read a post about someone with red testicles or something. my stuff went all red and i freaked out. it was this cream. the doctors contradicted my story in saying this cream would make me better. then i saw a doctor who told me that it could irritate the skin. the lamasil apparently does the best of all them. fucidin too but one's anti-fungal and the other is anti-bacterial. if they think its a yeast infection or jock itch like rash this lamasil cream maybe of some help.

i had got the same cream as you in clotrimazole as it was thought it maybe a bad case of a male yeast infection, then it was Fucidin ointment, then Fucidin cream, followed by now Lamasil as two reliable doctors deem it to be jock itch. i get this from running but never on the penis. i been tested multiple times for std however, not herpes or hpv rather just physical examinations all of which said weren't herpes. with the use of lamasil, its really helped a lot. i have some slight discomfort, little puffy on the left side but if you haven't got this cream, i would talk to your doctor about it. it wouldn't hurt. they also diagnosed me as having an enlarged prostate due to prostatitis. it really sucks man. keep positive. i wish you the best man.

Can you get the results of the blood test and post their numeric value here - ie hsv1 igg 4. 6 and hsv2 igg 3. 8 or whatever they are? We can better help you if we see them.

he took a blood test....and i have had cold sores, so i'm guessing thats why it came back positive. The bumps aren't sores or lesions...just nasty looking red bumps...they don't hurt really. It doesn't sound like herpes symptoms thats why i was shocked he gave me a scrip for valtrex. i guess it wouldn't hurt to take them, however its seems like a waste of time and money. its expensive stuff.

when they tested you for herpes - did they do a blood test or did they culture the lesions you had with a swab?

idk what kind of herpes they tested for....i doubt its herpes...you would think doctors could tell the diff between a damn rash and friggin herpes but he gave me valtrex just as a precaution which is ridiculous...but whatever perhaps it will work. thank you for the feedback you guys...i think i should just go to the dermatologist.

Herpes outbreaks do not last 2 months - they usually heal within a few weeks.  If you are positive for HSV-2 (you did not clarify which test was positive), this rash doesn't have anything to do with it.

What type Herpes did you test Positive on HSV1 or HSV2 ..... and was it a culture of the sore or a blood test ? ...... Herpes is generally a cluster of blistery itcht sores which can be on one or several areas of te Gemitals and i agree wit Scared they wouldn't be around for that long......

A rash of bumps that stick around for 2 months is not herpes. (Just to clarify, is it the same bumps or a different set of bumps?)

You should probably see a dermatologist. Molluscum contagiosum is a possibility.
