STD from DRY SEMEN?!?!?!

In the course of making out with my boyfriend, he got semen on his belly. I forgot about it until I licked his belly. I think it was dry semen because it tasted salty. Shortly after 24 hours, I got a sore throat. Could I have gotten an STD from dry semen? I'm really worried. I'd really appreciate help!

your sore throat isn't related to you licking your bf's abdomen where dried semen was.  this is incredibly low risk for std transmission and we never recommend testing for it.  Any doctor who does, is either doubting that that was the only sexual contact and is just trying to be nice about not saying that to your face ( we all think like Dr house does - everybody lies ) or they are greatly uneducated about std's in general.

it's THAT time of the year for coughs, colds and sore throats to be very common. Even if your bf isn't sick, just kissing him is a risk for those sorts of illnesses.

if your bf has an aversion to doctors and getting tested, don't have unprotected sex with him until you've gotten his butt to the clinic for proper testing!!! Protect yourself !!! Also realize that someone who won't go for std testing and hates doctors in general is going to be a pain in your butt if you end up spending a lifetime with them.

I will second Vance2335 that STDs do not show up 3 to 6 months after.  The information you recieved at planned parenthood is wrong.  You should --if you are sexually active and wearing condoms test once a year, you should test anytime you have unprotected sex with someone of an unknown STD status.

In all honesty, I would rather recieve advice from people on this forum because they've got two leading doctors backing up everything they say and a hand full of experience in this field.  Someone like me and vance2335 and GraceHHP for that matter, for example are are 29 years or older and have probably been in your shoes and know things that we wish we know when we were your age.   Furthermore if you read through the forums, you'll see that rarely are they wrong, and are sincerely here to help, not to give wrong adivce/information.  I've seen total respect from them, and my respect to them for doing this.

I know your trying to help but misinformation causes more harm then good. Go to the Expert forum where Dr's answer questions. My information is taken directly from the Dr's on this site and from reading.

Hey just trying to help. Planned parenthood informed me that STDs show up 3-6 months later and to get tested a few times a year. I'd like to believe them more than someone from a forum. Just saying for your safety. Again good luck

Hi Vance,

Thank you, I really appreciate the information!

I am curious to know when STD’s show up. If they don’t show up 3-6 months, when are the accurate testing times?

Also if you don’t mind me asking, how did you become knowledgeable on the subject? Is there a certain website that I can read up on this?

Please do not listen to dlights because his answer and advice is wrong.

To start STD's when left the body start to deactivate the postntial infectionious. And when something is fully dried it is no longer infectious (actually before that time frame).

You have no reason to test every 3 months and STD's do not show up 3-6 months. If you want real testing times then ask me but the info from dlights is wrong.

My suggestion is to use condoms. You and your bf test to make sure neither has a STD, and if one does have a STD then you can get treatement.

Not to worry you but it is possible. Veeerrryyy slightly though. But it is highly doubted. Maybe your body was fighting the semen due to the sore throat. Just be calm and positive and visit a planned parenthood center once every 3 months to make sure you are clean. STDs usually show up after 3-6 months of sexual activity. Next time though make sure your boyfriend is absolutely clean. Good luck

Thanks, that's great to hear! Would you by any chance be willing explain why it's not possible?

Hi Jessy,

I've asked him already. However, he has an odd view point about visiting doctors. Therefore, he hasn’t been tested for while. We’ve only been dating for two weeks so I'm thinking that he could have gotten an STD in the past. Is it even possible to get an STD from licking dry semen?

Hi

This is your boyfriend's semen we are talking about here.   He's your boyfriend, ask him if he's got STDs.    STDs is not an issue here.
