help!

UGH...I'm so frustrated...

About 3 months ago I noticed more discharge than normal coming from my vagina. For while it was an amount, although a lot, that i could attribute to other things. Without an odor, and without itching, I wasn't too concerned. To go along with this, I had recently had a horrible bout of strep throat that was resistant to antibiotics, within 6 months I was on almost 6 different kinds....because of this fact I figured I had a yeast infection, although it didn't exactly seem like one. I took an over the counter monistat treatment, but symptoms continued. I moved away and had to find a different doctor through my insurance. He has been so irritating to deal with. I went to see him, and after taking a look he ended the procedure by saying "Well, everything looks fine to me, I'll perscribe you an anti-fungal pill that should clear up your symtoms, as well as a cream." I urged him to PLEASE to a swab test as I was almost certain he was wrong, I've had yeast infections, this is NOT one! Somewhat reluctantly (?!?!?!) he did a pap smear and sent me on my way.

A week later I called back and spoke with the doctor. At this point I had filled the perscription with no releief. The discharge seems to have gone away slightly in amount, but now the color is greenish. It looks whiteish grey coming out of my vagina, but when put on a piece of toilet paper is clearly green, as mucus is when you are sick with a flu. He said "Good news is the swab came back and you don't have clahmidya." He seemed puzzled that my symptoms were persistant and perscribed me metronidazole 500mg, a dosage of 4 pills I took completely yesterday, 2 every 6 hours.
It's been almost 48 hours and my discharge is still greenish, and still somewhat frequent. There is still no odor.
The last time my partner and I had sex it was slightly uncomfortable the first time [felt due to improper lubrication] and very painful the next day.
I am frustrated for many reasons. Through the internet it is looking like i have gonorrhea [joy]. This seems mostly do to the lack of odor, and that my clahmydia test results came back negative. Should I wait before I call my doctor and bug him again? Should my symptoms have cleared within the 48th hour of taking the meds? Does it even sound like the meds were the right ones? From what I've read online it looks like those are normally given for trich...which it doesn't really sound like I have...
Also, about 2 months ago [around when my symptoms began] my boyfriend and I had anal sex for the first time. We switched between anal and vaginal sex several times without using a confom [i know, i know, neither of us knew this was a no-no at the time...whoops] and I've heard that this can cause bacterial/fungal infections in the vagina...could this be a possibility?
Also, my partner does not have health insurance, and getting treated when we finally find out what the hell it is I have is not going to be cheap for him...is it customary or okay for a doctor here in the states to give 2 courses of treatment to a person for them and their partner? that would sure make life easier....
help! i know there are a lot of questions, but I'm scared and embarrassed and anything would help :(

A low grade chlamydia infection?  That's a new one for me.

In any case, with your doctor being the way he is (and it sounds like its time for a new one), you might never figure this out.

I'm glad at least that he is treating your partner.  That's something.  You'd be surprised at how hard that can be sometimes.

So annoying...
went and saw him again. He tried to tell me that green is normal and nothing to worry about, that it might just be my bodies "natural color" even though it's never been this way before, and EVEN though i told him sex was uncomfortable...
I obviously wasn't happy with that. After I pressed him, he conceded by saying that perhaps I have a low grade chlamidya infection that vasnt picked up by the test? So he perscribed me a 10 day string of antibiotics for that, as well as for my partner...
UGH. why do I feel like I'm forcing my doctor to treat me for something, only to have him treat me by GUESSING?

well phew, I'm certainly glad to hear I don't have gonoreah...i really was certain I did and was NOT looking forward to having that unpleasent conversation with my partner.
AJ, I'm going to go with you on the possible staph infection...not that that's GOOD, but I've read a bit about it online and it seems that with the string of antibiotics I was on in the last year this could be a possibility. Either that or I DO have trich and the antibiotics he gave me didn't cure it...however without the odor present it makes me doubt trich is the culplrit...
sigh....this is looking like it's going to be a lot of trial and error before I get better...

I have no idea why they allow people to give out this info if they don't know what it is.

GC is gonorrhea.

So they did no other testing?  Good luck today!

GC probably refers to Gonorrhea, since both tests are normally done together.

Okay, symptoms still present this morning...
I called and made an appointment for tomorrow morning at 930am :(
I asked the receptionist what I was tested for and she said "chlamidya and g.c." and she had no idea what "g.c." is...
does anyone here know what the hell that is?

Thank you, I will let you know. I'm really hoping that the antibiotics will treat whatever it is over night and have less symptoms tomorrow, but we'll see. I have a feeling that's just wishful thinking :/ I'll call if not.
To be honest, what infuriates me the most, is that in this day and age a doctor should be ENCOURAGING a young female for wanting to check up on her health, not acting surprised when she wants to be tested for stds, REGARDLESS if everything "looks normal". *shakes head*

Well, he might have done a wet mount, which looks for trich (which makes it even more intriguing that he treated you for an infection you don't have), yeast and bacterial vaginosis.  A wet mount is a slide that they look at under the microscope and check for visible bacteria.

Its not something that they let grow to see what shows up.  That's an endocervical or vaginal culture, and if that wasn't done, that needs to be your next step.  You might have some staph or group b strep happening.

And you are right - it would make not a bit of sense if he tested you for chlamydia but not gonorrhea.  Those tests are usually done together.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

I'm assuming that he only tested for chlamydia, but I'm not sure. That's all he said "good news" about, but I'm wondering why the hell he would ONLY test for that, why not test for everything at the same time, you know? That seems retarded to me, and I'm going to be furious when i call tomorrow if that's all he tested for. I believe I remember him saying something like "if there was a bacterial infection I would have seen an abnormal growth on your slide, but there was normal growth..." does that help?

I went to planned parenthood before him but they don't accept my unsurance and I made the mistake of telling them i don't have confidentiality issues so they wouldn't treat me with theirs.

Hi there -

How frustrating.  It is best practice to actually culture when there are symptoms, but I'm not sure exactly what kind of testing he did.  I know its a pain to call and ask, but I'd want to know if he tested for bacterial vaginosis, yeast, trich, gonorrhea, etc.  I'd also want to know if they just did certain tests, or if they let a sample just grow and see what appeared.

Some doctors will to partner treatment, others won't.  It depends on state laws, and how doctors feel about it personally.

Is there an std clinic near you?  Google your city/county/state and std clinics and see if you can find one near you.  A Planned Parenthood might be a good idea for you too.
