First off, you shouldn't even medicate yourself for you may not know whether or not you actually contracted a std. You don't know if you are treating for the right std too. There has to be a certain measure of medication and type of medicine in order to help you get better if you happen to have a std. Second, unprotected oral is low risk but certainly not a no risk situation. You may get gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, herpes. HIV has not been known to be contracted through oral sex. If there weren't any sores or ulcers present, the likelihood of both syphilis and herpes are very very low but still possible. You can get treated or tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia within three to five days post exposure. Syphilis can be within four to six weeks post exposure or sooner if physical primary stage symptom occurs. Herpes is three to four months post exposure unless physical symptoms i.e. cluster of blisters occur. Please if you are not certain about what to do, do not medicate yourself immediately, instead, seek physician assistance.
Thanks for the prompt answer!
I am currently out of the states in remote country where even finding a doctor is a challenge! I had no choice since I am not coming home in 2 weeks but to take amoxicillin. I was afraid I had exposure and knowing that health care is hard to get I decided to take full 7 days course. Can you please tell me if amoxicillin would clear any of the stds? In case I contracted any? Also did I start treatment to early 8 hours after the exposure following for 7 days.
Thanks again
Can any one else help me on my question please??
Thanks
You should never in any circumstance medicate yourself. I can understand that you do not have any medical services available to you but, unless you happen to a licensed medical persons, I suggest you play the waiting game until you are able to find medical assistance. Amoxicilin does treat for gonorrhea but the depends on the potency of measure prescribed to you to clear the deed. This is why I'm telling you only medical personnel should be advising you as to what medication you should be taking.
Amoxicillin is not usually given for stds. In fact, I don't know of any that it actually would treat. Most bacterial non-gonorrheal stds are treated with doxycycline 2/day for 7-10 days or Azithromycin 2g one time. For gonorrhea, you need a shot, I forget what it's called plus Ciprofloxacin. For viral stds, they have no cure although you may be able to reduce symptoms by taking antiviral medications.
