If it's a wart, HPV, the strains that cause warts and the strains that cause cancer are different. At least that's true of the common HPV strains, I don't know about every single one (as there are many).
That said, a wart is usually whitish and with a distinct cauliflower shape. If a doctor looked at it and said it's a wart, then most likely he's right.
