Been taking Cipro, no results, NEED ADVICE.

So I got diagnosed with gonorrhea and have been taking Cipro for 3 days now. However, the side effects of gonorrhea (pain while urinating, and yellow puss disharge) have only gotten worse. There is more discharge, and the pain has become excrusciating to the point that tears are shed. I want to get rid of this soon, or atleast the pain and drainage.

I am afraid that I may have a Cipro-resistant strain seeing that nothing has improved and has only worsen ten-fold. How long should I wait to pursue other medication such as Rocephin?

Josh -

Are you in the US?  If you are, refer your doctor to the 2006 CDC STD Treatment Guidelines where it says that cipro should not be used any longer.  They did an update in April 2007 - here it is:

ok good.

So I would call the doctor and let him/her know that symptoms haven't improved at all, and are getting worse.

Good luck,

I would call now.  You should be seeing a marked improvement by now, and if cipro is going to work, you only need 1 dose of 500 mg.

Were you tested for gonorrhea, or is this a diagnosis made by symptoms?  I ask because if you didn't have a positive test, this might not be gonorrhea.

Keep in mind.... my doc said the symptoms should be cured in 2-3 days on Cipro... 3 days later, its only worsened.
