Does HPV go away

I have heard some information stating that after 2 or more years a lot of people are cured from their HPV and that the immune system will realize the same virus should it appear....is this true? Is it ever safe to have sex once you know you have HPV?

Ok ok I'm confused here.. I here so much back and forth opinions on the topic by Doctors or wanna be Drs online. First off I hear that the strains of hpv that cause warts do not cause cancer.. Than in different comments I read that if the warts are left untreated they cause cancer? Wth? Or I also hear they go away on their own.. After a half a year. But all I see on topic boards is Dr's stressing people infected get treatment asap.. or else!!? I have just discovered anal warts, and kind of want to let my body take care of my warts itself rather than painful surgery.. Or lasers or any treatment quite frankly sounds terrible!.. Heres the confusing part. If i let my body fight the warts with home treatments and such and it spreads say away from my anus, Will the warts go away all at once or do you have to fight each wart separate? Everytime I fart I get scared my ball sack is gonna get sprayed by wart sauce or something and spread there! I dont get this hpv crud and honestly so depressed and stressed now. How is there no clear facts on this virus? and from what I hear 80% of North American sexually active adults will get it or have it! That's pretty crazy to not have any substantial information out there I honestly think! I'm going to a gum clinic to get as much info as I can and possibly treatment cause really every page online about the virus contradicts the last page and now I'm even more frustrated than when I was when i discovered them.. Oh this is pretty important to and couldn't find any substantial info on this question.. I heard that hpv won't go away.. The warts will but not the virus.. Does this mean everytime I have sex, my partner will get infected with hpv.? If so that's so bad and hate myself now that I have to tell every parter oh btw after we do it your gonna have an std that causes gross warts. 80% of people will have it and no proper info out there! Someone please give me some proper info about my concerns!!!

Hi there -

Actually, the current vaccine, Gardisil, protects against 4 strains.

And while you can know for sure if you haven't had any symptoms - either warts or abnormal pap results - for 2 years, that you have cleared it, some experts say after 6 or 8 months you probably have.

The vaccine isn't approved for men yet, though some doctors do give it.

No one really knows, you can pass it even though no warts are present but odds are (90%) that after 2 years without symptoms you wont pass it.  It also depends on your partners immune system (can they fight small amounts of HPV viral shedding).

If you are worried there is a vaccine that protects against the 2 strands that cause 90% of genital warts.  I figure if you are in the situation where you have not had outbreaks AND they get the vaccine you SHOULD be fine.

Best of luck.

Or, will you continue to infect others.  In addition, will it continue to show up in HPV tests?

Thanks
