Condom-protected sex

Hi! I'm a male and after having condom-protected sex with an old girlfriend I hadn't seen for quite a few years I have become concerned about some possible STDs from the encounter. I should specify that I'm currently in a committed relationship...

My question is whether whether there is any concrete risk of acquiring an STD from condom protected sex and receiving oral sex (also protected). She didn't have any signs of STDs looking closely at her vagina. Still, should I be concerned about herpes or even syphilis...and anything else??

Thanks so much in advance.

Condoms work. Most experts wouldn't recommend STD testing after a single condom-protected exposure.

Yes, the rash stage is also able to transmit syphilis but you would not be touching someone with the rash.

I will, thanks. So you are basically saying that syphilis can only be transmitted thru a skin to skin contact with an open sore, correct?

Syphilis is direct contact with a sore.
Herpes can be transmitted during an outbreak or shedding period. More Herpes info please post in the herpes forum.

Thanks for your prompt feedback on this. Something I'm not quite sure about is whether the risk of contracting syphilis only exists when the other partner has visible sores, or even without. Likewise, can genital herpes be concretely passed without an ongoing outbreak?
