EARLY treatment of STDs with antibiotic- Effective?

I had unprotected sex- oral/vaginal. Within 1 day- more like 4 hours, I got scared and took 1000mg of Zitrhomax, then 500mg more 24 hours later, per the pharmacists instructions. Will this prevent/cure any potential diseases, including gonorrhea or chlamydia?

The provider told you wrong, zithromax is used for chlamydia. The shot you were given was for gonorrhea.

Thanks for the help.  I went and saw a physician- after an exam, he prescribed me a 125mg ceftriaxone shot and some doxycycline. I did tell him about the zithromax, but he said that was to treat gonorrhea, not chlamydia. Does this sound correct?

at this point , don't self treat for anything else. If you are worried about std's from this encounter, get proper tested at the proper intervals. You treated for chlamydia but I'd retest for it properly just in case at some point.

it's best never to guess and self treat like this. overuse of antibiotics needlessly has caused way to many problems in medicine!

1000MG Zithromax is the treatment for chlamydia.
Other STD's are treated with other antibiotics. If you got chlamydia from your experience, you have treated it and it SHOULD be gone.
I have had chlamydia before, but zithromax did not cure it. I needed a different antibiotic called doxycycline. This does happen so don't be surprised if it is not gone.
As for other STD's, you need to get tested to get a prescription for the proper antibiotics.

I am confused- The antibiotics I took won't help? Can someone please explain why not?

The recommended thing is to wait 5 days to test for gonorrhea and chlymida...if positive then treatment is given from there.

If not, then what should the recommended 'wait' time be?

It might but not recommended to do so.
