False negative possible for Chlamydia?

I've just recently had a urine test for Chlamydia done.  I have been taking Nitrofurantion for nearly 9 months due to a resistant urinary tract infection - the test was in hopes of finding an underlying cause.  I've come across info that suggests that antibiotics like Nitro may eradicate only one part of the life cycle of Chlamydia bacteria, but not another - effectively forcing it into some kind of hibernation.  I'm wondering whether my being on the Nitro the day of the test may have skewed the results, leading to a false negative?  Should I have the test redone after a few days of not being on Nitro?  My UTI-like symptoms return within 48 hours.

Yep, exactly.

I'm sorry you are feeling so badly.  :(

Thanks for your reply.  I'm on day 5 off being off the Nitro, experiencing some symptoms of UTI that are barely under control with lots of water drinking!  I apologize for the inherent whine, but 2 weeks is a long time!  I assume this is the amount of time for the antibiotic to truly clear my system, and for the Chlamydia to reestablish itself?

Its a possibility.  You should stop the antibiotic, wait 2 weeks, and then retest.
