red bumps and rash on penis, concerned

i posted this on the dermatology forum, but i've yet to get a response so i pasted it here. please help docs!

i've been doing research about this for a while, and i just want to ask and get it over with because my lack of insurance has kept me from a doc lately.

Three years ago i had some random bumps pop up on the underside of my penis, mid shaft. i messed with them a bit too much, got a bit infected, so i ran to the e-room. after several docs came in and looked, they told me it was folliculitis, eventually it went away.

about 5 months ago i started dating someone new after getting out of a monogamous 5 year relationship. about a week after we first started having unprotected sex the bumps seem to come back, this time much worse, and with a bit more itching than the previous time. i wrote it off and ofter a little over a week they went away.

About a month ago i trimmed my pubic hair (shaft,  scrotum and all) with a set of trimmer i keep for just that, because shaving freaks my skin out. All hell broke loose. My scrotum became red and inflamed, and tons of pimples started popping up, some bigger than others, but most seemed to have hair in them. my balls looked terrible, and felt even worse. in a couple weeks than went away, but after having sex one day a new rash broke out at the base of my penis on the underside, and several pimple like bumps broke out AGAIN! ARGH! it itched like crazy for a couple days but      eventually that stopped and due to my compulsion to pop them (when i do sometime a small amount of white stuff comes out, sometimes a bit of blood, sometimes nothing) several of them are irritated, including one that has formed a crater around one of the follicles and scabbed a bit. they seem to climb quite far up my penis shaft and look terrible. most have follicles coming out of them.

now for whats scaring me. and the bend in my penis by my scrotum (underside) there are a ton of clear bumps that are pretty close together.there is alot of hair there but they just look kinda scary, and the skin in the area seems shiny and alot of moisture hangs out there. should i be worried?

i also have a few random clear bumps (one on scrotum, two on left shaft up higher) that dont seem to be related to anything really, i figure they are ok cuz its been severaly days and they dont seem to get bigger or anything.

i guess im just another guy who's freaked out about nothing. i've ruled herpes out, and i dont have any discharge so that rules everything out but HPV and i guess thats what i'm worried about with the clear spots.

my gf has only had one other partner besides me, i've had multiple in my time, but that was 6 or 7 years ago =P she had a pap smear and several tests done about a month and a half after we started having sex, and it came up clean. all i'm asking is for someone to put my mind at ease, so i can sleep better, and maybe tell me what i can do to soothe this, cuz this one with the crater is horrid looking and i wont have sex with my gf because i just want this to go away.

today the bumps seem a little irritated, still red. the one that cratered a bit is scary looking ,but the other follicles inthe area have always looked like they had tiny holes in them. it looks funny, but i think that just because the infection made it swell and brought some of the other folicles nearby to the surface, looking almost wartish. right at the base theres a bunch of what look like whiteheads, close together but not connected to each other, that are sore to the touch.

once again stds have been all but ruled out. molluscum is a possibility, but i think the dimples i'm seeing are just related to it being hair follicles that are angry. and i dont think hpv causes the rash and the itching the was there when this thing started.

please help put my mind at ease and just tell me to stop worrying so much. i dont think i can give anymore info, but if i missed something just ask. i was mostly wondering if there was something i can do, its been 5 days of this particular breakout of bumps, and several months of anxiety, this needs to stop! HELP!

Well first, you don't really know if you have an std.  You can be infected with hpv and not know it because there is no test for men, and most of those infections are asymptomatic.

Also, not having an std doesn't make you clean, just as having one doesn't make you dirty.  Dirty people need to shower.

You should get whatever symptoms you have checked.  It might be hpv, or folliculitis - I'm not sure what kind of bumps you have.  It could also be herpes.  If your gf has oral herpes (think cold sores), then you can get genital herpes from that.

She might have oral herpes and not know it, since only about 20-40% of people with oral hsv1 ever get cold sores.
