Std and oral risks

Hi i had oral sex with a male that i didn't know (i am male) and developed a serious cough, after a week i went to the doctor and was told it was allergies and that i was experiencing nasil drip, she only examined my throat for about 5 secs at the most. does this sound  right? she prescribed to me 4 medications.
after she examined my throat i told her i had oral sex and she told me as long as i didnt have penetration sex i wouldn't have to worry except for genital herpies. how rare is it that i can get hiv or any other std from oral sex with a man? the man i had sex told me he had gotten checked 2 months before we had oral, but he was a stranger so i dont know if i can trust him. thinking of going to get std tested but am waiting for 6 weeks to pass to get a firm test, can any one tell me if am worrying for nothing and not just a oh your fine comment but actually explain to me the risk. been searching online and every one is split on the actual risk for oral hiv, some say .01 to 8 percent why do doctors disagree on the risk?

The risk for oral STD is low risk. Cough has nothing to do with a STD
