HSV 1&2, HPV, & cervical cancer

I've tried to post this question in the doc site but it seems it's always full.
I found I have HSV1&2 & HPV.  5 Years ago, my sister was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I've searched the internet and can't seem to find the odds of me getting this type of cancer. Does anyone have any insight on this?

The types of hpv that cause cervical cancer are not the same types that cause external genital warts.  No recurrence of your warts in 2 years after they were removed and it's most likely that it's gone and no longer an issue.  external warts are only just a cosmetic concern - no one wants to have to deal with them but they aren't a health issue.

If you want to know if you have a hpv infection on your cervix that might lead to cervical cancer one day - you can ask to have a hpv test done with your next pap test.  Your gyn will know how to do this.

I have HSV 1&2 with no symptoms (Lucky Me!).  They say I had to have had it for more than 10 years. As for HPV, I had some external that showed up during pregnancy 7 years ago. I had them removed and have not seen them since.  My biggest concern is due to all the hype on the new vaccination for cervical cancer (due to HPV). And then having it in my family history well....
I haven't seen my GYN in almost 2 years, I guess it's time. It's just sooo humiliating.

What kind of hpv were diagnosed with? Did you have external warts or did you have an abnormal pap test?  If you had a hpv test of your cervix that came back as + - was it high risk or low risk? Have you had follow up on a regular basis and if so has it all been normal?

Genital herpes is not associated with cervical cancer. hpv is the issue.

There's a terrific hpv board at www.ashastd.org if you want to post over there. I don't always get a chance to come here regularly. I'll try to remember to stop back tomorrow to follow up on your question though here :)

From what I've read abt HPV & cervical cancer, the chance of actually developing it is less than 5% for women.  The chance of men developing cancer from HPV is less than 1%.  This of course is assuming that you have a normal immune system.
