HSV Risk

If my partner is oral HSV1 + how likely am I to transmit HSV2 to her gentially or orally?

My IgM says recent exposure but the other tests say I dont have HSV 1 or 2 so it has to be a recent exposure.  I am scared to death.

I only recieved oral and it was only 15 seconds.  HSV1 would be easy to explain since I am sure may partner already has (multiple cold sores for years) that but HSV2 is another story.  Please help!

Oral hsv1 doesn' tprovide any significant protection against infection with hsv2 - whether it's oral or genital hsv2.

The igm test was a complete and total waste of time. It should've never been drawn on you :(  At this point since you didn't get a lesion culture done from the sounds of things you will need to wait and repeat your igg blood test in about 2 months and see what it says. As was already mentioned - should you get a return of symptoms before then see your doctor asap for a lesion culture and typing.

Thanks MD.  Any ideas on the first question I posted on this thread?

If your symptoms are starting to improve, it is likely too late to have the lesions cultured. If they appear again, see a doctor ASAP to have them cultured. Be sure that he or she does type specific testing. If you are indeed positive, the culture will indicate the type of HSV that you have and you will know that you have it genitally. If your symptoms do not return, you will have to wait the 12 + weeks and have another blood test to have a better idea of your HSV status.

Redness and small bumps also sound like symptoms of a fungal or yeast infection. Just something that you might want to have checked...

I'm no expert on the subject, but I have read on here many times and on the doc's page that IgM tests are highly unreliable and can produce false positives. Are you having typical symptoms?
