Info regarding levaquin and transmission times

So, I was at a massage parlor and ended up having intercourse with the masseuse.  Stupid I know; I was kinda drunk and my inhibitions were lowered.  Only time I've ever done something so careless.  We used a condom, but it broke halfway.  We stopped and put another on and finished.  I was unprotected for perhaps 10 seconds.  Anyways, now three weeks later I have begun having a burning sensation after I urinate.  No other symptoms: no rash, no discharges, no fever, no lymph node swelling, etc.  I went to the doctor who suggested it could be a bacterial infection, and prescribed me Levaquin.  I got tested for every potential STD: HIV, Hep A/B, Syphilis, etc.  Now, let's say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously).  I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose.

My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now?  Or will the Levaquin have made it so I am no longer contagious?  The reason I ask is that I have a first date on Saturday, and I want to know if I should apply the brakes if it gets to that point.

Also, how concerned should I be about having contracted something not treatable?  Like I said, I was unprotected for a very short period of time, there are no lacerations anywhere on my groin, etc.

All I can say is that this whole episode is going to make me a lot smarter about who I sleep with from now on.

higher doses don't work faster than the recommended doses dear.  The doses for each infection are picked specifically after research to show what is the lowest possible dose of that medication that will cure the infection for the vast majority of people. Taking more doesn't make you better faster.

as I've said before, retest in a few weeks if you are concerned.

Grace; thank you very much.
you have no idea what a relief you have given me.

that makes complete sense!

I did read somewhere that it was 500 mg of levaquin per day for a week would cure it; and i figured the 750 mg; was a day and a half of 500mg; that it would take less time since the dosage was higher

but to be safe; since i have 750mg of levaquin; and took it for 6 complete days SHOULD cure it?

i know; im paranoid paula.

levaquin is an alternative treatment for chlamydia. The reason it's not recommended routinely is because it's more expensive and also you need to take it much longer. patient compliance goes down dramatically when someone has to take something for a week hence the azithromycin preference - 1 dose right in the doctors office so that you know the patient took it and it's going to work for them.  no reason to ask someone to pay more and commit to longer treatment when azithromycin works just as well and is far easier and cheaper to take.

the symptoms have gotten better; however i dont know if the symptoms will come back? levaquin is more powerful than zithromax i thought? so why would levaquin not work and zithromax would?

sorry; im just confused.

Thank you again.

it's probably going to take care of it. if your symptoms don't get better, retest a few weeks after stopping treatment.

i cant seem to get a STRAIGHT answer.

Thank you for your input!

Ok, so I got the tests back today, and my IGM came back positive.  However, I've been reading that that test is completely worthless, and doesn't distinguish between HSV1 and HSV2.  The painful urination has gone away, so I am now entirely asymptomatic.  I actually believe that the painful urination may be related to an electronic cigarette that I had been smoking.  I stopped its use and the pain went away.

How concerned should I be about HSV2?  I've not had any symptoms, save for the painful urination.  I intend on returning for an IGG test in 2 more months, but should I abstain from any sex in the meantime?

Thanks.

Right, used a condom.  It broke.  As I said, I was unprotected for about 10 seconds.  But that's long enough to worry me.

Use a condom and you will have no worries. If it is a bacterial infection then by Saturday you should be pretty much free of it.
Your test results for HIV and syphilis are not conclusive. HIV-3 months, syphilis-6 weeks.
