no its ok I didn't even think about it but thank you so much for your help
Ah ha, sorry I made that assumption. Yes that does change things. A yeast infection after a round of antibiotics in a woman is very common. I would totally agree with the nurse then, try treating that first and only if that is not successful would I assume something else is going on.
I am not a man....I am women
Yeast infections do happen in males, yes, but not commonly. However if they did grow out a culture, that's a pretty good indication of Chlamydia. They also can run a NAAT on a swab, but that's not as common. Honestly, I still don't know why anyone ever gets swabbed anymore! It's not as good a test, but I suppose it takes a while for everyone to catch up.
In any event, I'd still think another infection, especially Trich which is so common, is more likely than a yeast infection. But you might have given the nurse a description which matched yeast more closely.
Keep in mind, on first treatment failure for NGU, the recommend second treatment would be a different type of anitbiotic (you took doxycycline, so say 1g azithromycin) plus 2g metronidazole for possible Trich infection.
I actually just called the health department and the nurse said that if i were to come in now it would still test positive but she said it sounds like a yeast infection so she told me to go get stuff for a yeast and if after my treatment is done and it still comes back then I should come in and get checked again
ya they said it takes 3 to 5 days but it took like 7 days
Did he send the samples out or did he give you his diagnosis on the spot? A culture requires time to be grown.
The Dr. went inside me and got samples I am assuming it was a swab with culture, I was assuming that they would have told me that I had anything else because I went in there specifically checking for an STD...
Given the cure rate of Chlamydia, which is over 90%, it's probably just as likely that it either wasn't cured in the first round of antibiotics, or that you are also infected with something else. How was your diagnosis made? Urine NAAT (DNA) test? Swab with culture? Microscope exam? Urinalysis? Depending on how you were diagnosed, you might or might not have started off with Chlamydia.
The most common other infection would be gonorrhea, they are often caught together. But I assume if you'd had that the Dr would have told you and given you different antibiotics.
Other possibilities are Trichomonas, Ureaplasma, and Mycoplasma. I doubt the health department will test you for those, however, as the state of testing with those infections is currently quite poor.
My best advice though...don't ignore it. It sounds to me like you're not cured yet.
