Lingering Chlamydia after Treatment

I appreciate your time, guidance and consideration for my issue.  You all are good people helping on these forums.

I am a male. I had unprotected sex on January 12th with a female.  Later that week, irritation at tip of penis, some clear discharge, sticky & red urethra opening, slight need to urinate.

5 days later: bacteria swab (reported negative later) and urethral viral herpes swab (reported negative later)

12 days later: probe for chlamydia/Gon (reported negative later), white blood cells present on quick bacteria swab but nothing else seen, treated with 1g Azithromycin and shot of Ceftriaxone, herpes blood test drawn (hsv1 igg + for cold sores, hsv2 igg -)

39 days later symptoms still present: probe for chlamydia/Gon (REPORTED CHLAMYDIA POS Yesterday), white blood cells present on quick bacteria swab but nothing else seen, treated with 1g Azithromycin, HIV blood test drawn (reported negative later)

72 days later symptoms still present: I returned to the clinic for HIV results.  The nurse tells me yesterday I tested Positive for Chlamydia.  My initial negative and rapid bacteria scopes not showing bacteria led to utter surprise from the news.

I still have symptoms.  I plan to go get re-tested for chlamydia.  Should I ask for a swab or urine test?  It seems as though Azithromycin failed me at least once so far (no intercourse throughout all this).  Will an STD clinic try a different medication or should I seek a private doctor?  The symptoms have lingered which is very bothersome.  Please advise what my action plan should be for testing and which medication(s) regiments I could suggest.  Thank you very much.

sticky meatus is normal??? sorry, but no. Chlamydia is persistent. dead white blood cells are the sticky substance due to chlamydia inflammation. that's from my urologist.
People should KNOW this, and not be re-assured for falsity.

The nurse is correct that you can still have DNA still around, causing a false positive.  After 29 days this should not be an issue.  Usually you can retest in 3 weeks.  Based on your symptoms though it doesn't sound like you're experiencing any chlamydia symptoms.  irregular meatus irritation could be from many causes, and the "sticky opening" you describe is normal.  It sounds like you're past this.  A retest at the first clinic may be helpful to give you extra reassurance.

I went back to the second std clinic this week for re-evaluation. The nurse would not re-test me since it hasn't been 3 months yet.  She said there would be no way of knowing whether a positive result was truly positive or unviable virus DNA still around. This suggestion may or may not be why I tested positive approx 29 days after getting treated with Azithromycin.  

I read up and it seems that the 3 month timing is somewhat arbitrary as long as you wait 6 weeks or so.  I plan to go to the original clinic (more time has passed since they have seen me) and try to re-test this upcoming Thursday.

Symptoms currently are slight on/off irritation and redness of the meatus throughout the day. Sticky opening in the morning and from time-to-time after not urinating for awhile.  

Thoughts on the clinic policy? Or the chlamydia clearance time period? Thanks all.

I am having exactly these symptoms, did you ever get cured? I saw a urologist and he completely dismissed my symptoms. Please help if you found a cure

here you go buddy, this will help you, I found proof journals that confirm that Chlamydia is in fact persistent when not treated immediately, this leads to the scandalous news that Urology Clinics are probably releasing people back into society still with Chlamydia.

Hey bud, I've got the same problem, tried every antibiotic so far with recurrence, (azythromycin, doxycycline, ciprofoloxacin, lymecycline) I think some strains of Chlamydia are persistent. I've been battling chlamydia for 2.6yrs. we need to work together to eliminate this, I suggest you send off urine samples from your morning urine once a week to test positive, my urologist is considering  email me: ***@**** this problem is not going to go away from oral antibiotics.
levofloxacin is an option my urolgoist suggested.

I forgot to mention that you should be retested prior to antibiotic treatment.  I misread you post.  Although it can take up to 7-10 days for symptoms to completely go away, they should not persist much beyond that if your treatment was successful.

Hi at 72 days what are your symptoms? Clinics are ok for treating std,s and most likely have more walk ins and are experienced than a private doc.

Return to the clinic and let them know you're still having issues.  An alternative antibiotic treatment should be given to you at this point since Azithromycin treatment failed.
