Ureaplasma

I was recently told by my Doctor that I had this bacteria infection (ureaplasma). He said that it isn't certain whether it's actually an STD or something that can be contracted from a shower or toilet seat.  After I stated that I am sexually active he said that my boyfriend should also be tested and if not tested then at least take the antibiotic that he gave to me.  Is it really neccessary for him to go through all that if I could have contracted it from a different source..including my exboyfriend?

This disease is a bit controversial in terms of it's importance.  However, there is enough data I believe that it is potentially harmful.  Dr HHH doesn't believe it is, but I have a good deal of evidence that disagrees.  If I were your boyfriend I would definitely be tested.

By the way, regardless of the importance put on this disease, nobody believes you can catch it from the shower or a toilet seat.  There is some evidence you can be born with it, which would be a non-sexual route for infection, but after that, if you got it, it was through unprotected sex.
