Minor tears in foreskin

After sex with my girlfriend last week, I found that my foreskin in the area just below the glans was very red and torn. It was only the next day that it was very sore and tender, though it healed up really quick (two days). I've had "friction burns" many times in my youth from vigorous sex, LOL, but this was new to me. My gf had a hysterectomy last year, and as a result her natural lubrication can take quite a while to get going, so initially I assumed that was the problem. But now I have noticed that there are still some tiny tears in the skin, even after masturbating, almost as though the skin is just splitting rather than tearing.  There's no other obvious signs of infection, such as redness or swelling, but I'm sure that some form of infection must be involved as the onset was so sudden.

I've looked around many forums such as here, and seen similar queries but any replies no matter how well intentioned, always seem to be very vague and so don't really help much.

So my question is, have any of the guys here (or any medical professionals), seen  symptoms such as mine and successfully treated them? If so, could you tell me about your own experience and what worked for you?

I'm finding this all rather worrying, as most guys do when there's any sign of a problem with their "pride and joy". :)  Thanks in advance...

It could be that, absolutely.

If you and your gf are having problems with lube because of her hysterectomy (I had a hysterectomy too, and have that problem), just get some lube.  It will help it feel better for you both.

And it can be fun to play with.  ;)

But wait until your symptoms are gone before you have sex.

Have been told by a nursing friend that this could be symptoms of a simple thrush infection in men. I've been recommended to get a Diflucan tablet from pharmacy and possibly apply Canesten ointment externally to help clear it up. I'm pleased that it looks like something simple, but having never had any problems down below before, it really did give me quite a scare!

Update. No sooner had I posted my question than I noticed something else after taking a shower. Looking at my penis end on I can see that there is a ring of swelling around the glans about half way down, a bit like a ridge running most of the way round. Completely painless, but undoubtedly evidence of an infection of some kind at work.
