NGU symptoms

I received oral sex without a condom during the last week of July. Within 2 or 3 days, I had the feeling of constantly having to urinate. I went to a local clinic for testing, where the doctor saw no visual signs of infection, and with only my description of having to urinate or feel like urinating constantly, diagnosed NGU. I was given a seven day supply of Doxycycline, 2 times a day. I just finished the last dose today, but I still have the feeling of needing to urinate throughout the day.
My main question is how long do the symptoms usually last? And is it "normal" to still have the same symptoms after finishing the medication?

Thank you Emma, I'll be talking to the doctor in the morning. That's my call-in day to hear the official lab results.

You could have a urinary tract infection that didn't respond to the doxy and might need another antibiotic, such as ciprofloxacin.  After you get treated with the proper medication, your symptoms should go away completely.  NGU is a general term that means "nongonococcal urethritis" which is basically inflammation of the urethra not caused by gonorrheal infection.  It could be due to a variety of things.  However, since you are not experiencing discharge, it's possible you just have a UTI that needs another antibiotic.  My advice would be to go back to the doc and let him/her know that your symptoms have not gone away and take it from there.
Good luck,
Em
