Need some additional reassurance.

All, I have been dealing with some redness on my penis (just the top of the shaft between the head and base) for about 8-9 months now.  I have seen doctor after doctor to try and get a diagnoses.

My dermatologist did a punch biopsy after I had been using steroid cream for about 2 weeks and it was not really all that red.  The test came back as a pattern seen with mild chronic dermatitis or mild eczema.  So I was sent home with about 8 samples of topicort LP which I used on and off.  I had tried to quit using the topic for about a week and became really red and went back and saw the dermatologist.

This time he did some scraping of the area and said there was a fungus/yeast infection in the area.  He also checked my feet which also showed fungus.  This time I was sent home with 30 days of oral lamisil and was told to apply lotrimun Clotrimazole 1% OTC cream twice a day.  This really helped and I have been pretty clear for about 1 week now.

To throw another twist in this story I was having some pain in my groin area (behind scrotum) so I went to see a urologist.  They did a culture and found that I had strep bacteria (or something like that) and told me I had prostatitis as well.  Now I am on 250mg levequin for that.

To try and make this as short as possible I am asking you smart people if I am just one unlucky guy or if I am dealing with an STD or something like that?  I still have a dull ache in the "taint" and cannot really pinpoint where the rest of the dull aching is coming from.

I am ready to pull my hair out!  Seems like if one feels better the other gets worse........

During this time I have never had a lesion break open, I have not had any discharge, I have not had any real differences in the way I urinate, I am a lot more stressed worry about everything which I am sure is not helping either.

Can someone please provide me with support, am I over reacting?  Is there even a remote chance that I could have an STD after so many doctors have looked at me?

Thanks!

Hey Auntiejessi,  If I keep using the clotramizole I seem to stay pretty clear, nothing really bothers me.

I am really getting fed up.  Would you have any other possible suggestion for me to try?  I have gone 2 weeks without the redness but with enough time it just seems to keep coming back.  It still never breaks open or anything like that.  AAARRRGGGG.........

It comes and goes, I can look at it in the morning and it might be red, by afternoon I might look perfectly normal.

Is this just the norm of a yeast infection or is it the norm of a dermatitis of some sort?

Thanks for all your help.

It wouldn't completely eliminate an std, but you can rest assured that its not an std causing these symptoms.  If you are concerned, test.

Well it ***** to hear that someone else is having a similar problem.  However I can say for the last 3 weeks I have not had to use any medicine.

I still feel like I need to scratch from time to time but it is very minimal.....

I just wish it would go away forever....  Here it is again...

By the way, I never got an answer to my previous question, anyone care to give me some input??

Would a biopsy on the penis, a genital culture and numerous dr visits completely eliminate the possibility of a STD?

biopsy resulted in dermatitis and genital culture resulted in strep b (prostatitis)

Thanks

welcome to hell... I have been dealing with symptoms like you desribe for 4 years.  No on ehas a freaking clue, I have been to 7 drs, uros, derms, my GP, etc... no on ecan tell me anything that is right or how to treat it.  Be very careful on the levaquin, I have been on it several times for 30 and 45 days at a time and you WILL get a freaking horrible nasty yeast infection unless you take steps to prevent it, immediately stop eating simple carbs and sugar and eat lots of yogurt that is fortified with probiotics.  systemic yeast infections are horrible and I wouldnt wish them on anyone, and its almost always the last thing they think about so you siffer for weeks on end.  Whenever I get antibios for my prostatitis now I always also get a script for diflucan which I take a tthe end of the antobio cycle, otherwise I get systemic yeast issues.  Good luck!

Yes, some infections do respond to creams, but if you mean an std, then no - you would need more than that.

Thanks!

If it was an infection I could not imagine it going away with creams.  Would you agree?

Wow - you have had NO luck, huh?

None of what you describe sounds like an std, and I would follow the prescribed treatments.  Make sure to stay on top of the lamisil and creams, because antibiotics can make the fungal infection worse.

Hang in there,
