Outbreak after finishing Zovirax treatment!!

Hello, I have genital herpes and I just had an outbreak two weeks ago, I took Zovirax as always, 200mg 5 times a day for 5 days... I finished the treatment and one week after (now) got another outbreak and it is worse...is that possible? isnt it supposed to suppress it? I live in europe and they do not have the valtrex suppressive therapy, do you know if i can take another supressive therapy??  should I take now another zovirax treatment even though i finished one 2 weeks ago?? please help i dont know what to do!! :(

Did they actually do any testing of your vaginal secretions to check for yeast and bacterial infections?  A rash and redness very well could be due to that.

The provider didn't see anything that looks like herpes. Perhaps what you think is herpes really isn't?

Yes you end up taking different amounts if you take the doses I suggested - studies have shown that both doses speed healing of lesions in the same amount of time.  I personally think the 2 day dose is the easiest.

Yes I am a female... I went to the gynecologist this morning (i live in europe) but I only had like a skin rash and it was red, she said that everything was perfect, that it could be the heat and sweat etc but then this afternoon I felt the little bumps, not blisters yet and I know that it is herpes, should I go back and show the doctor or should I just take the zovirax again? doesnt it affect my immune system? I also take the pill...

Thank you so much Grace for your help!!!! for the dose I dont understand it, I end up taking diferent amounts if I do 400 (30 pills of 200mg) or 800 (24 pills of 200 mg)

episodic treatment does nothing to suppress the virus.

yes you can take another round of acyclovir. I recommend 400mg 3x/day for 5 days or 800mg 3x/day for 2days. MUCH more convenient than the 5x/day schedule!! Just combine your pills - 2 200mg = 400mg and 4 200mg = 800mg.

You can take suppressive therapy with acyclovir/zovirax too.  It's 400mg 2x/day.

You don't list your gender but if you are female you might want to see your provider and make sure there's nothing else going on like vaginitis.  Sometimes that'll trigger more frequent recurrecences.
