Hi Grace,
I went and got retested for HIV, STDs (including HSV2 - I already know I get cold sores), etc. Everything came back negative, except that I'm waiting for the HSV2 results which I should have back tomorrow.
Quick question for you...
I recently and completely unintentionally gave my girlfriend HSV1 genitally :(...I still feel horrible about it, but we are getting through it together. My question is this...she went on a 5-day course of Valtrex 2 weeks ago. Since then, she said she's still experiencing "stinging" in her vaginal area. Is this normal? Needless to say she's getting quite frustrated as she'd like to have us resume a normal sex life, but I was wondering how much longer this is going to last...
Thanks.
Hi Grace,
Sorry for the multiple posts, but to confirm I was tested for both HSV1 and HSV2. HSV1 is positive (I've had cold sores) and HSV2 negative. Both of which were tested post 3 months to my last partner.
Thanks.
Hi Grace,
Thank you for your advice. I certainly intend to specifically request what tests I'd like done (although I thought that saying a HIV and STD screening would suffice)!
I haven't heard back from my doctor yet, but out of curiosity, why would a practitioner care if it's an STD or not? Just more paperwork on their end? He seems like a very, VERY dedicated and caring physician, which is why I've been going to him.
Also, I know you mentioned "in the future" in your second paragraph. Is it safe to say that a general urine test would normally test for bacteria, and even though it won't differentiate between STD types, include the same bacteria if something were "wrong?" Just wondering.
Thanks,
Buster
some providers will test like this to avoid having to report std's to the health department. it's really not the best way to test :(
make sure in the future, you are actually getting std testing done and not just general testing like this. also make sure you were tested for hsv1 too and not just hsv2.

Hi Vance,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I left his office a message and I should be getting a call back later today, but thought I'd post it to the forum. The woman with whom I spoke said that the test would've picked up general UTI's, etc. and when I spoke with him about my blood test results, I tested negative for HIV, HSV2, etc. For example, I asked him if he checked for hepatitis and he said "not specifically," but that he checked my liver function and enzymes and had I been infected with something such as hepatitis, it would've shown something was off on that test. I'm assuming he wanted to do some general bloodwork to test for a bunch of things and in that test, other things would've shown up? I should also mention that I've experiences absolutely zero symptoms, but also know some things are asymptomatic!
Thanks again.
Can't say what he did/ordered but most likely it would have shown some bacteria.
