Please help me understand

Please help me understand what I'm going.    I have chronic Prostatitis for a year accompanied by joint pain in my right hand.  I don't think any of the medications worked given by my urologists.   The doctors did ask me to take the complete STD panel, and all the reports came out clean.

When I searched in the internet for Prostatitis and joint pain, it came up saying it could be Reiter's Syndrome.  I am not sure is that the one causing the pain.

One of the article was saying, Reiter's Syndrome is STD, acquired, and affects the prostate in the form of Chlamydia.   But my Chlamydia report is also clean.

Other than joint pain and Prostatitis, I don't have any other symptoms of Rieter's syndrome.   Just pain in testicles and right hand wrist for a  year now.  No pains in legs, etc.  Is it common that joint pain is accompanied along with Prostatitis, and this is possibly not Reiter's syndrome?

Anyone know whether Reiter's syndrome is STD, if so how it will be passed in which form of sex?

usually prostatitis is diagnosed based on symptoms as well as a manual exam in your anus that finds the prostate to be slightly enlarged .  Google chronic pelvic pain syndrome for more info on chronic prostatitis. HHH in the std expert forum frequently references a few articles on it too if you want to search on that forum for prior posts on it too that lists them.  prostatitis can be std related but you've tested negative for std's so you know yours isn't a std related issue.

I wouldn't assume that the hand pain is related to your prostate issues at this point to be honest.  have you seen a rheumatologist at all yet or an orthopedic specialist for the hand issues?

The doctor did inserting something on my back to diagnose Prostatitis.  I was treated with both Doxy and Cipro, each for 10 days.  But they did not help.   Can this have long term side effects on joints?

Yes, I was tested for RA (Rheumatoid arthritis) which came as negative.    But I see in some web sites saying it is hard to diagnose if it is Reiter's syndrome.

Now I don't have any pain in my testicles or penis.   But the pain is very severe in my hand in all the joints.   I am little worried and sees there is some connection between the two pains, as both my testicle pain due to Prostatitis and joint pain on my hands started on the very same day.

Please help.

First of all, how did your doctor diagnose you with prostatitis and what antibiotics have you taken?  Did they give you Cipro?  Cipro comes with a black box warning and has been known to cause joint and tendon pain.

Also, did you doctor test your for Reactive Arthritis?  It's difficult to diagnose but they can test you for a gene that would mean you're predisposed to getting RA.  RA is not an STD, but some times it can be the bodies reaction to an STD, but not always.  There are other infections that cause RA.

You should change doctors or see another urologist.
