My next questions is, will this effect the fact that I want to have children one day? Thank you so much for the information.
Hi sadaberry,
From your post, you have described that you have been diagnosed with syphilis 5 years ago and got it treated.
And recently, you went tested and you have been told you are syphilis positive.
Well, you have been treated in the past, I would like to believe you have been under care by a doctor previously. And you also mentioned you have taken STDs tests and in the clear.
Now, you probably might know that after you have been treated, the doctor will run VDRL or RPR tests several months after the penicillin shots to see if the treatments work.
However, some tests like TPPA, TPHA will remain positive for life.
My best guess is the blood donation centre actually runs the TPPA or TPHA test which result in you tested positive but in actual fact you have been treated and shall have no worries.
Seeing a doctor soon to get tested and to address this question is a good move and it will be helpful for the doctor too if you can call up the blood donation centre to find out the test taken.
Thanks.
