Realistic odds of Infection

Hello Doctors, I thank you for what you do. I wish i didn't have to get on here, but it is a great resource!

I recently had a sexual encounter with a woman who told me she had herpes and said she was on daily valtrex right after we finished up. I think she trusts valtrex more than I do. I immediately regret this decision. I gave her oral sex, and our genitals did touch but there was no penetration. Anyway I haven't had any symptoms, but have read so much contradictory information that it is very difficult to figure things out.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

Since you asked for comments, I think you need to relax.

Since she takes valtrex, if you were with her in a long term, monogamous relationship,  as long as you avoided sex during an outbreak, there'd be about a 2% chance you would get it over the course of a year.  That's a 98% chance you wouldn't get it.  You have about the same chance (or worse) of getting a female partner pregnant when she's on the pill.  You can do the math for breaking it down into a one time encounter if you want - clearly its a very low chance.

You didn't even have sex.  Oral hsv2 is RARE, and with that and the valtrex, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

You don't have anything to worry about here.

I checked, and it doesn't seem you've made it to the doctor's forum yet.  This is the forum you want - http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/116
