STD Meds

Hi Vance and Grace, It has been two weeks since I had unprotected oral sex performed on me briefly.  I had a refill for Doxycycline from a UTI I had so I filled it and have been taking it for one week with one more week to go just in case I caught something.  I also have been dealing with a yeast infection off and on which happens to be on now so the doctor prescribed me Diflucan which I am also one week into with one week to go.  I have had no pain while urinating and no discharge.  The only symptoms I have seem to be related to the yeast infection and look like yeast infection pictures I've seen on the internet.  The symptoms are mild irritation and a little redness along with the raised area around my urethra.  No blisters or sore spots.  I'm sure I'm getting to be pretty annoying by now but my question is: When I finish the doxycycline can I be sure I am clean?  I will have had two weeks of two pill a day treatment.  Also, when is it safe to return to unprotected sex with a safe partner?  Please share your thoughts on this.  Thanks so very much.

After everything you have said and taken.....your concern should be 0 (zero).  Yeah, I know your scale started at 1, but that's how much of a concern I think you should have.  Once you clear up your yeast infeciton, you should be good to go, but as always, if you continue to have issues, follow up with your doctor.  Good luck Ron

Thanks everyone. Sorry for my mistakes. Shaken, on a scale of 1 to 10, what should be my concern? (1 being none)

Doxy isn't used for the treatment of gonorrhea.  Ceftriaxone is typically used because of it's high effectiveness.  However, with that said, you would know if you had Gono.  Symptoms are severe and you are not experiencing any of them (discharge and pain on urination).  It sounds like you have a lot of anxiety and a yeast infection.  Your main concern at this juntion would be NGU, but you don't have any of those symptoms either.  I hope the yeast clears up and that you learn from the experience.  I can relate to the anxiety and embarrassment you're talking about.

Yeah for the most part.

So to summarize: I had a low risk encounter in the first place then took medicine that would have taken care of syphilis, ngu and gono?

Doxy most likely would have taken care of gonorrhea.

If you wanted to test you would have to wait 3+ weeks so the medication is out of your system.

Hi Shaken,

I did not get tested before self medicating myself.  I will get tested after I finish the meds.  Here are the facts.  I have yeast infections and seem to be having one now.  I was worried about STD from the unprotected oral and found that my main risks were herpes, NGU, Syphilis and gonorrhea. I'm not worried about herpes because I am familiar with the symptoms due to having fever blisters, reading about it and having a buddy with genital herpes.  I am 3 days away from finishing my 2 week doxycycline treatment which would take care of syphilis and NGU leaving gonorrhea as my only worry.  With gonorrhea, I would have had painful urinating and discharge which I have not seen.  I will go to the doctor for a complete screening but in the meantime I'm looking for some peace of mind.  What are your thoughts?
I know it was irresponsible to have the interaction and then self medicate but when someone is overcome by anxiety and embarrassment, they do dumb things.  Along with that, my yeast infection is a little more severe than the ones I've had in the past which adds to my anxiety which is amplified by my seemingly slow response to the diflucan.  Can you or anyone please give your thoughts so these next few days can be a little less painful?  In my mind, I feel like my only worry would be gonorrhea which seems to be inconsistent with the symptoms I should be seeing.  Help!!

Have you been tested for STD's priior to the meds, or did you begin to self medicating yourself?

There is no way for anyone on the internet to tell you if you will be clean and able to return to unprotected sex.  If you have something that didn't respond to the Doxy, then obviously you're not clean, but you will never know that unless you're tested.  You need to have a follow up visit with your doctor after your done with meds.  Let us know if your symptoms clear up after you're done with all the meds.

After seven days, my last post had still not been answered. Sorry

You can absolutely help by answering my questions from my last post.

it's most helpful when you just keep adding to your original post and not keep making a new post each time.

you've self treated with antibiotics so really nothing we can do to help you. you should've properly followed up with a provider with testing instead.
