STD testing

Hello,

I planned on getting STD tested in a few weeks but just completed a ZPACK (azithromycin) for a sinus infection and my dermatologist has put me on 100 mg doryx (doxycycline) for acne. Other then the HIV test should I go ahead and get tested for gono, syph, chla? The reason I ask is that from what I am reading on this forum, often times those antibiotics would clear up those infections.

Thank you. This has been a very helpful and informative forum.

Well, it depends on the strength.  If you had a 500 mg z-pak, it would clear up chlamydia and NGU.  Doxy 100 mg 2x/day would also cure chlamydia and NGU.

They won't cure gonorrhea or syphilis, though.

Hi thank you for the quick reply. I'm wondering though would the antibiotics mess up the test or would they actually clear up those infections. Reading some of the replies in the doctors forums, it appears that they are saying that the antibiotics themselves would clear up the infection.

Yes, those antibiotics could mess up the testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia and NGU.  Syphilis will be fine though.

Perhaps you could stop the doxy for a few weeks, and in the meantime, try Proactiv or something.
