STD/vacation worries

male, 29:

i have had 3 unprotected sexual encounters (m-f) in the past 2 months. two were with "trusted" partners and one was with a total stranger (don't ask; huge mistake).

i got tested about two weeks ago and the results were negative. now i am showing chlamydia-like symptoms (urinary discomfort, discharge). it's possible the incubation time was longer than expected.

it's saturday now, i am going on vacation tomorrow (sunday) for two weeks. i am not finding many options for same-day testing/treatment in my region and i will be travelling in a third-world country where my options for medical care are limited.

i have read about chlamydia leading to complications; should i cancel my trip (costly and hard to explain to the people i am travelling with) or ride it out and seek help immediately following my trip? the symptoms are (at the moment) not terribly onerous, i'm more worried about infection spreading (epididimytis, etc.).

essentially, how urgent is this potential infection? any swift help is much appreciated. thank you.

that's great information. thank you so much for your help. my test was 10 days after my last unprotected exposure so it sounds like i may be good for the STIs i'm worried about. i will check a clinic or something and see what they say. thank you.

Hi and welcome. Normal testing times for the main std,s like gono and chlamydia would be around 6 days after exposure. If you tested like around 2 or 3 days after it could come back negative. 5 days is a good wait however. If your having a white discharge and/or burning or itching in your urethra its definatly a symptom of something but the question is what. It could be a simple UTI or non specific urinary trac infection. Some of these can clear up on the own but we dont know what you have or if you have anything.
If for sure you have these symptoms it would be advised to have them taken care of before you leave. Your correct about it spreading but the biggest problem is the discomfort you will be in never mind the worrying. Third would countries DO have the capability of taking care of this and in some ways see more of this than in non third world ones.
