Small red scab like flat bumps on head of penis

I understand this may to detailed however I'm very worried and would like to go more into depth of the issue in hopes to get a more clear detail of what this may be.  This last weekend my boyfriend and I consumed a lot of alcohol which led to of course rougher and longer period of sex.  During the two days we had intercourse at least 3 time -2 being for a long period of time (approx 1 and 1.5) however being both intoxicated and the sex being rougher than usual I became dry and we attempted to use lube.  Even then after a certain period of time the lube wore off and I was no longer interested to continue to have sex.  My boyfriend on Sunday then starts to complain that his penis hurt from too much sex.  After the continous complaining we decided to take a look to validate his complaining.

After looking I noticed at the right uppper top of his penis dark red flat non-puss bumps that have an apperance of scabbing. He said they don't itch but it hurt on Sunday. They appear on the end of the head of the penis only on one side and there is approx 4-5 in one small area.

Could this be a result of friction or is it possibly herpes?  I have had no symptoms or bumps anywhere on my body.  No irritation during urination, or burning sensation at all and he has not complained of any issue at all aside from the above mentioned.  My questions are as follows;

Are there any pics of friction to even relate this to?  I've attempted to look online but have been unsuccessful when looking for anything similar to what it looked like.

How long does friction bumps take to appear and how severe can they be?

What else could it be?

What does herpes look like after erupting (pics would be helpful) and how long does it take before they do erupt?

My concern is I usually only see him every 4-6 weeks and I would like to think he would be honest if having sex with anyone else however this is not always the case as many know.  Therefore, I'm very concered that this may not just be friction bumps.  I understand that the best way to get an conclusion would be to go to a doctor however I would like to know more before walking into a doctors office.  PLEASE HELP...I'm worried!

It has been approx. 4 days since last intercourse and I have not had any symptons of any of the mentioned online in regards to herpes.  He didn't seem to be concerned and when I asked in regards to how it has been doing since my visit he implied that he applied neosporan on it and it's almost gone.  I have not been successful when looking to online to see pictures of what or amount of damage friction can cause from having to much intercourse.  Could this be because I had just shaved but was growing back stuble and this caused the friction from the duration of intercourse and the reaction of lube?

These are all possibilities, but if you all are having a long distance relationship, and/or haven't ever tested for stds, now is as good a time as any.
