Concerned.....

Dear Doctors,

Almost 72 hours ago, I had an alcohol induced momentary lapse of sanity and allowed a stripper to mount me during a "private" lap dance.  This unprotected intercourse lasted for less than 5 minutes total.

This is the first time anything like this has happened to me.  I have ordered a full panel of tests and am now anxiously waiting until the 7 day mark so I can go and get them done.

This is the first and only experience I have had of this type and am understandably concerned for the safety of myself and my wife.

What are the odds anything coming back positive in the tests and is there anything I can do to reduce my risk now?

I am displaying no physical symptoms at this point.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

It has now been almost six weeks since the exposure and I received the test results below a couple of weeks ago - these were from a blood sample taken 7 days after the event:

Chlamydia Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAA) Negative Negative Negative 01/27/2011 01/28/2011
HIV-1 Antibody, Confirmation Western Blot <1.00 <1.00 Negative 01/27/2011 01/29/2011
HIV 1/O/2 Abs, Qual HIV 1/O/2 Abs, Qual Non Reactive Non Reactive Negative 01/27/2011 01/29/2011
HIV-1 DNA by PCR With HIV Antibodies by ICMA Negative - Negative 01/27/2011 01/30/2011
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen with Confirmation by Neutralization Negative Negative Negative 01/27/2011 01/28/2011
Hepatitis C Surface Antibody Test (Anti-HCV) <0.1 0.0-0.9 Negative 01/27/2011 01/28/2011
Gonorrhea Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAA) Negative Negative Negative 01/27/2011 01/28/2011
Herpes Simplex Virus Type I IgG Test <0.91 0.00-0.90 Negative 01/27/2011 01/29/2011
Herpes Simplex Virus Type II IgG Test <0.91 0.00-0.90 Negative 01/27/2011 01/29/2011
Syphilis Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) Test with Reflex to Quantitative RPR and Confirmatory TP-PA Non Reactive Non Reactive Negative 01/27/2011 01/28/2011

Everything showed up "negative/non-reactive", including the HIV-DNA by PCR test which was clearly a good thing.  However, I've been advised that the testing windows for some of these diseases mean that I should test again.

What is the optimal time to do a re-test?  I'm very keen to put this episode into a "vault" and move on with my life.

Thanks,

no this isn't a sign of a std - it's you being hyperaware of your genital area right now and paying far too close attention to things.

your only testing that was accurate so far was your chlamydia and gonorrhea testing.

I am now at the eight day mark and had my samples taken for testing yesterday.  I am now anxiously waiting the results and going a bit crazy in the process.

I am still not displaying any physical symptoms (although my mind keeps trying to tell me otherwise), although I have noticed a clear drop of liquid coming from my penis just before using the toilet a couple of times.

Could this be a sign of Gonorrhea or Chlamydia?

I would refrain from sexual contact until your tests come back negative. Unprotected sex is exposed to all STDs, however most people don't have STDs. I would test just to make sure.

This is not the doctor's forum. You have to pay to post there.

you had unprotected sex correct?

You can get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea anytime after 1 week post encounter. You need to wait 6 weeks for syphilis testing and 3 months for herpes and hiv testing. it can not all be done at the 1 week post encounter mark.

the risk from a one time encounter is over all very low but since there is another partner involved, certainly covering your bases properly is in yours and your partners best interest.
