Hello.
I am worried that some of my sympotoms and lifestyle (user of sex workers) may suggest a current syphilis infection - although recently I have been tested with a TPPA blood test which came out negative.
However, I was also currently in an almost fatal Road Traffic Accident and whilst in hospital had an infection (which was so bad it caused sepsis) - they eventually gave me antibiotics and I recovered. I get the feeling that they did not really know what the infection was although it was assumed that it was a chest infection.
My questions are:
1) can a TPPA test be reliable if I was given strong antibiotics 3-4 weeks earlier?
2) can syphilis cause such a serious infection and sepsis-like symptoms 8 months after contraction? Bearing in-mind my immune system was very low because of the trauma of the RTA.
3) my symptoms are permanent nasal discomfort (for 7 months now) and a temoporary blister/red lump on the penis shaft full of pus which lasted only 2 weeks. How often does syphilis affect the nasal area and how often is the chancre full of pus?
I am very worried and I would like to thank you in advance for all your help :)
