UTI, maybe STI

For the past few weeks I've been having a burning feeling in my Penis. Nothing excruciating, but it just didn't feel "right". I've been seeing the same girl for a few months now and as far as I know, she doesn't have any STD's. Anyways, I finally decided to "man" up and go to the DR today to get checked out. I gave a urine sample and they were able to do a test right then and there. This is the part that kind of has be confused/worried.. The DR said that it looks like  I have an UTI and that they found some blood in the urine. I've never noticed any blood in my urine, but I guess they could see it when they tested it. The DR said that since UTI's in guys aren't very common, they are sending the sample off to be further analyzed. They also took blood to check for HIV/Syphilis, just to be safe ( I donate blood regularly so I'd think I am ok in that department). I'm wondering what kind of test they were able to perform so quickly in the clinic, and how they were able to figure out that I have a UTI?

The DR put me on Bactrim DS and some other stuff to help with the pain, which makes my pee bright orange.

give it a week and if you are still having symptoms, return to be seen again.

Update. On Monday the doctor said my lab work came back "essentially" normal and that the medicine (Bactrim DS) should get rid of the UTI. I finished up the medicine around Tuesday (just a 5 day course) and while I felt better, I still don't feel completely better. I don't have the urge to urinate a lot like I was, but I still have a slight burning sensation when I pee, mainly just in the morning after I wake up. I'm guessing this medicine wasn't effective in killing all the bacteria, unless it takes this long to clear up?

it's called an urinalysis. they can be done by dipping a testing stick into your urine sample or running a few drops of urine through a testing machine.  it tests for the most simple of things - wbc, blood, sugar, bilirubin, ketones and a few other things which can help your provider start to figure out what testing to do next.

many things can cause blood in urine ( microscopic blood that you can't even see ). Irritation from infection for weeks, kidney stones and infection of course.

the bright orange pee is from the Phenazopyridine  in the urinary pain relief product you were given. be aware that not only is it highly entertaining to look at, it also will stain your clothing , toilet seats , vinyl flooring and carpeting too!
