Unprottected vaginal sex

Hi all, my question is I am 12 days post exposure after having unprotected vaginal sex.  I have been having burning sensation at tip of penis and uncomfortable tingling in scrotum sometimes burning.  I have over last couple of days had a clear watery discharge from tip of penis and pain in back of elbow, neck, behind knees and in inside of ankle.  My doctor has prescribed me doxycycline 100mg twice a day.  he thinks it could be chlamydia.

1.   Does these symptoms and my timescales ring true with chlamydia?

2.   Would Chlamydia cause these symptoms?

3.   Is the doseage correct of doxycyline correct and how long before I see a difference?

Many thanks

I have told you three times already that pains behind the knee, ankles, elbows and neck ARE NOT signs of chlamydia or gonorrhea. You need to see a doctor specifically about those pains, not stds. So, it is probably unlikely the medication is going to work since your joint pains are most likely being caused by something else. Again...YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE NOT STD RELATED.

Hi 2terrified and all aothers, I have visited GUM clinic on Monday and they took swobs but doctor said he could not see any thing to suggest STD but has gave me a course of azithromycin, 1 gram (took all 4 tablets there and then), how long does this drug take take to work? I am not drinkin alcohol at all but the symptoms still continue, pains behind knee, in ankle, back of elbows and in neck, no visible nodes.  If this is not Chlamydia, Ghonnerrea, Syphyliss, ie the common STDs can you suggest what it could be and would these drugs help me?

You should give it another week or so to go away.  And well, it wouldn't surprise me if the doxy was ineffective due to your excessive drinking.  But that is a choice you made.  So, if the burning and tingling in your genital area does not go away, see a doctor and be sure to get tested to make sure you are being treated for the right thing.  The other stuff with your legs and knees have nothing to do with it.

Hi  again, I am still getting symptoms and have finished 1 week doxy course 3 days ago, bad burning/crawling sensation in scrotum and tired feeling in legs, aching behind knees, have been on holiday same week as taking doxy and have been drinking heavily every night, has this stopped doxy clearing STD, what you recommend, in real discomfort, no discharge??

If it works, your symptoms should go away in a few weeks or less.  No, you should not drink alcohol with any antibiotic.

Hi again, how long does it take for doxy to take away symptoms?  Can you drink alcohol whilst taking doxy?  no discharge now, but still getting tingling crawling in scrotum and aching in arm pits, (non swollen) and behind knees too?  Any ideas anyone???

No, the joint pain is not associated with any other std.  At least not this soon.  Recommended treatment of doxy can be 7-14 days at the prescribing doctor's discretion.  All of the std's are treated differently.

No he has not tested, I am only on antibiotics for 7 days, is this long enough to treat chlamydia? aching in neck, under arms, behind knees, is that symptom of any other std that fits with my other symptoms? if so will doxycycline treat this too?

Thanks

1. Yes
2. Not the joint pain
3. Yes.  You should see a difference within a few weeks. Possibly less.

Did he test you to be sure that he is treating you correctly?  It is not uncommon to have more than one std at one time.
