Very Uneasy

I had protected (w/ a condom) sex with someone I didn't really know.  There was a little touching of the genitals and hand to genital area. How soon can I get checked out to make sure everything is OK.  I feel like my genital area may be a little itchy, but it may be I'm just paranoid and looking for something to be wrong.

Yes, once you are infected with something, you are contagious.

But really, your chances of these are low.

Thanks for the feedback.  Are these all contagious right away?

One thing I'll add is that if the condom didn't break, the odds of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis and HIV are 0.  The only doubt put into condom usage is "proper" usage, meaning it does not break, leak, fits properly, etc.  But since in the real world things like that do happen, that's why there's still some risk, it's just really very small.

With in intact condom, it's really only HPV, HSV, scabies, and MCV which are transmittable.  But the odds do go down a lot.

So I'd say that if it were me, and I was sure the condom was in good shape afterward, I would not bother with gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, or even Hep B or Hep C testing.  I'd just get an occasional HSV test to check up on things, and keep an eye out for HPV Or MCV visually, which unfortunately is the only way to check with guys.

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide how much you'd like to test, but at least already you're doing the right thing by using protection, so kudos for that.

Thank you for trying to ease my mind.  Is the inital itching something to be concerned about?  I do get jock itch from time to time and am hoping it is nothing more.  This is not something I do on a normal basis so I am think/hoping that I am just really paranoid right now.  I plan to get checked out but I just didn't know how soon I could and for it to be worthwhile.

Hi there -

Your chances of getting anything with a condom are low, but you can test for gonorrhea and chlamydia at about 5 days, syphilis can take up to a month, herpes can take up to 4 months, and HIV can take up to 3 months.

I would certainly test for all now, and if they are negative now, and positive later, you know its a new infection, and it never hurts to know your status.

Again, your chances are low, ok?
