Thank you vance for your reply.

Aidsmeds said that I had no risk.

For the rare groups actually no one answered as such question seemed to bother. I understand that as I had no risk to some or low risk to others I shouldn't be worrying about it. But I think anyone in this situation should know and it should be clearly explained.

it is a moderator from Aids Avert that I have contacted and advised the following:

“The most-up-to date (fourth generation) EIA tests detect both HIV-1 and HIV-2 infections. Although most HIV infections are HIV-1 group M, EIA tests are also able to detect infections with rare groups and subtypes.

However, as HIV-2 and group O infections are extremely rare in most countries, routine screening programs might not be designed to test for them. Anyone who believes they may have contracted HIV-2, HIV-1 group O or one of the rarer subtypes of group M should seek expert advice.”

Seek expert advice? this is why I have contacted such sites. One other thing I do not understand if it is not detected by available testings so how do they detect they new subtypes/groups?
I read that for the person who was HIV infected with group N caming back from Togo was detected by using an achitect abbot test which was weakly positive.

I just want to know and understand how is it possible that an HIV infection does not get detected? and what tests should be taken to rule out any infections. I think this should be available to anyone and then they can assess if they need further testing.

Are you saying people from Aidsmeds said it will not detect rare groups or that you had a risk?

I really hope so...really hope so.

The fact also that there is so much conflicting information about HIV groups and the detection of an infection when it comes to a rare group doesn't also help...I feel like everyone is trying to escape this sensitive point... some saying an ELISA test will detect any infection other saying no amongst which people from AidsMed

thanks vance for your reply. But is did a KOH test for fungus and two oral swabs and no pathogens or fungus was found. It is really weird that so many people notice this white tongue after a sexual encounter

If someone could say why then we would have an answer. Also people start taking antibiotics that will develop thrush. Your tongue has nothing to do with your penis.
