Yeast, Bacterial or Trich: UNSURE

Sorry this is long, but I need advice.

I have had symptoms since Feb. 2010.  It all started when I put a tampon (super plus strength) because I was not feeling fresh that day (big mistake).  I was not in my menstrual cycle and had run out of my light day ones.  It all started with dryness in my vagina and then itching.  I did eventually have a discharge which I thought was yeast.  Decided to treat myself with over the counter medicine (1 day treatment yeast medication), which I have regretted since, especially after some of the readings about it I’ve done.  The medication felt like it was burning, but I thought it was working and that’s why it burned like hell.  I didn't see results so I thought maybe one day wasn't enough (I now realize it was a huge mistake) and got a 3 day treatment.  My symptoms got worse to say the least: I had dryness, irritation, redness around my vagina and a little bit of burning when I urinated.  My urethra felt weird along with my vagina.  Went to the doctor and I was told it was a bacterial infection for which I got antibiotics.  After the course of antibiotics and feeling like it was starting to get better at the end of my treatment I noticed what resembled yeast symptoms (again).  I had a discharge and still felt a burning sensation around my urethra.  I did not treat myself and waited.  I actually treated myself with yogurt and it did give me relief.  Eventually I went back to the doctor and they claimed did not see a reason for my burning sensation or itching, that there was no discharge.  They did notice a bit of a white film around my urethra which I had also noticed and would clean out, but the next day, there it was again.  My worry is that they never verified if it was yeast, bacterial or even trich because I don’t have insurance that pays for tests like that.  For my irritation my GYN suggested I douched with water and vinegar to help the irritation and I did, but not without burning myself.  I’m now ovulating so I have more discharge, but it looks a bit more than usual and I still feel that dry and irritation since Feb 2010.  My urethra feels better, but at times I still feel that burning type sensation, not sure how to explain it.  Please someone advice.  Not sure if I have yeast again this time around.  After using the douche (I never did it before but was told to so I did) I put rephresh gel to balance things out and get some relief after burning inside my vagina with hotter than usual water and vinegar.  Do you think it sounds like yeast, bacterial, or even possibly trich?  Should I treat myself or just wait it out and see?  Not sure what to do.  I never had problems with my vagina before.  Temporary itching and vaginal discharge at times for different reasons like ovulation and stuff, and once yeast, but that’s it.  This doesn’t seem to want to go away.  Whatever it is.

Douching is with vinegar and water can definitely cause a yeast infection.  Using yeast treatment can cause a bacterial infection.  So, you are at a catch 22.  What I might recommend is for you to try taking Jarrow probiotics.  It is a natural supplement that balances out the flora in the vagina. It should help you get this under control.  You can buy it at your local natural food store or online.  It can be costly, but under the circumstances...it would be much cheaper than paying for the testing you need and the medication that may be recommended.

I wanted to add...

I have no reason to believe I have an STD other than Trich coming up in my research on my symptoms along with Yeast and Bacterial Vaginosis.  I do however attend a college full of sexually active students and work at a place likewise.  I read that you can pick this up from toilet seats and towels.  I am careful when I use public restrooms, but still my underwear has touched a few toilets.  I'm just concerned.  Yeast or whatever, it is taking forever to go away.
