Can you post a follow-up? Has your condition cleared? I'm experiencing similar recurrent symptoms despite two rounds of antibiotic treatment.
ok well i was tested with a urithral swab and also a **** test. the flagyl was 500mg 3 times a day for 10 days. but i dont get why it would take this long for it to get any better ya know??? i didnt test positive for "clap" so i dont think i have it. ...
Is it Chlamydia? I thought I had it but found out it was Chlamydia AND gonorrhea. That said, I still have it even after months of treatment. It goes away but returns. Yes, I'm a gay male and yes I am passive in sex and have unprotected sex since I have been 200% monogamous for the last 8 months. My BF was tested negative for everything. We can't figure this out and needless to say I'm worried.
u ALL are wrong, u basically were cured from chlamydia however the symptoms may last up to 4months to go away, however they arent as rough as when u have chlamydia, there very mild like slight discomfort and slight burning from time to time, give it time my friend, chlamydia is curable but hey its an std its hard to get rid of its symptoms. GIVE it 3 months. Ur cured though
The Dr is probably right that it's not Chlamydia. He says it can't be it because treatment is typically around 98% effective, and you've had multiple rounds. So yea, it's possible, but it's very, very unlikely to still be kicking around.
Can I ask how you were diagnosed with Chlamydia? Was it a urine based NAAT test, a culture, a smear viewed with a microscope, urinalysis, etc. Because different methods have different accuracies.
So I take it from your post that you are still having acute symptoms? And the Flagyl didn't work? My next thought is that what is still bothering you isn't Chlamydia, and probably isn't Trichomonas either (after the Flagyl). Was it just a single 2g dose of Flagyl? That's the most common but least effective course for Trich.
so i asked the doc on herre for 15 bucks n he said there is no way i still have chlamydia..... you think urithritus can occur after with the same symptoms???
haha no, i didnt even think of that. i am not a gay male.... hmm then idk? i honestly think i have chlamydia still but a stronger strain. although now after i urinate, it seems as if some urine is still trying to pass through my penis and when i move into different positions, i can feel it slowly and actually painfully move at the tip and out of the head. things seem to be getting worse i guess you could say.
Are you a gay male? That's typically the way Chlamydia could infect your colon. If you're not receiving anal sex, then I would not worry about an infection in your colon (or rectum, which is a more common location for infection than the colon). But yes, your symptoms would be different then.
thank you for respondin again so quickly. i will look into the clarithromycin after i finish flagyl if it is not successful. i did read up on that and i did hear u can have it in your colon. would i have different symptoms if it infected that area?
3 days might be short for the flagyl to work, I'd give it more like a week to see if it was effective.
If your Chlamydia infection is still persisting, an excellent choice here would be Clarithromycin (Biaxin is the brand name). It has higher activity than Azithromycin, and you could take up to 1g per day for 14 days as a dosage. This is quite a high dose, but in your case it might be just what you need to clear your infection. That might be overkill, I'd think 1g per day for 7 days would be enough and would have a lower prevalence of side effects. Clarithromycin is generally well tolerated by most people.
Not sure if you'd understand this report but here's something that confirms this information:
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=89469
What you are looking at is the concentrations required to reduce a colony of C. trachomatis, which is the way that this data is typically reported. Also, these tests are in vitro (in a test tube), which does not always reflect in vivo (in a live person) behavior, but usually it does. So when you read this keep in mind that though something like doxycycline is pretty effective, you only can take 200mg a day VS 1 g per day of clarithromycin.
Sorry if this is more detail than you need. If you need clarification I'll try to help.
Good luck.
i am a male. they put me on flagyl about 3 days ago and none of my sumptoms have subsided... i have taken all medication properly too. I will be getting retested soon hopefully after i finish my meds. i think i still have chlamydia though because i took a week of doxy then a gram of zithromax and got tested again and was still positive! If i do infact still have chlamydia, what other meds are possible to treat???
Resistant strains of chlamydia are uncommon but possible. However, you've already taken several different types of antibiotics, which is the appropriate response if you have a resistant strain. Few strains (if any) would be resistant to everything. The Flagyl is also the appropriate response with the antibiotics not working.
Are you male or female? Female Trich tests are easier, but even male ones exist. They are not as common though. How long ago did you start treatment for Trich? And why don't you think you have it? It's VERY common. There are more infections with Trich annually in the US than there are with Chlamydia.
A good idea would be to get retested, to make sure the chlamydia is gone. Once you establish that, then you could consider further testing.
Unfortunately, you might now have prostatitis, a poorly understood disease. You might want to Google that. But basically, you might just have symptoms left, without any lingering infection. Usually, this will clear up on its own in about 6 months.
