clarification

Please clarify the statement below regarding cure for Chlamydia and NGU, speficially NGU.  Would both Bacrtim DS OR Tequin cure NGU...or the two in combination.  Just a little confusing for those of us who don't know. Thanks Doc..

"As for the antibiotics, both Bactrim and Tequin for 2 weeks would cure Chlamydia
and NGU and while quinolone resistance (Tequin) in gonorrhea is on the increase, at the time you tool it it was not a problem, particularly in heterosexuals.  No change in my response.  EWH"

Just to make sure...I can feel safe that I do not have NGU after those treatments?  You said they would have found GC during the swab but my concern moved to NGU.

That the treament my partner and I received would have cured any incubating NGU is what I think you said I can feel safe about...right?

Many thanks.

Yes, you can feel safe about that, as they would have found GC during the swab test.  You also got a shot of rocephin, which would cure GC.

I am tring to convince myself I don't have it.  Thank you for your time.  I will try to explain my concern breifly and I appreciate your interest very much.  After my oral exposure I took Avelox, 400mg 1 x day for 8 days for a sinus issue.  during that time I started experiencing the genital symptoms.  I was scared and went to my Uro who tested my urine, negative and clear for bacteria WBC, etc., and did a rectal secretion and found obvious bacteria in my prostate.  Because of my fear about other bacteria from the oral he gave me Flagyl, (4) 500mg pills at once x 2 days and 30 days of Levaquin, 500 mg 1 x day, and said that that would knock out any other stuff that might be present.  From Dr. Hook and Dr. Handsfield I understand that Chlamydia is not transmitted orally so my fears were primarily GC since the Levaquin is a fluoroquinolone.  After the Avelox, Flagy and 4 days of the Levaquin I resumed sex with my partner.  She had the Bladder infection not long after that and was treated with Nitofuran, Flagyl, 750 mg per day x 6 days and Levaquin, 500 mg per day for 6 days...at the same time I was still on the Levaquin...that I feel is important because we were on the Levaquin at the same time for a week.  If We had any GC or NGU...that should have been cured concurrently right?  From that point she got better with exception of 2 yeast infections which she insists are normal and she does have frequently... and I did not...which leads me to the prostatitis again.  But the timing of the prostatitis really has be snagged.  On a side note...I have never had burning during urination except for after the urethral swab...ouch.

I have been on Bactrim for over 60 days now and have had Gyntamycin shots and Rocephin shots which seem to help for a while and them my symptoms return.

And since in reading other posts relative to NGU Dr. Hooks says that "As for the antibiotics, both Bactrim and Tequin for 2 weeks would cure Chlamydia
and NGU and while quinolone resistance (Tequin) in gonorrhea is on the increase, at the time you tool it it was not a problem, particularly in heterosexuals.  No change in my response.  EWH"

he also states that Chlamydia and NGU are treated with the same medicine.

and Dr. Handsfield says to another guy "Both the azithromycin (the original 4 pills) and the Levaquin would have cured NGU.  You do not have an infection. Follow up with your doctor.  This forum cannot help you further.

Can I in you opinion feel safe that I just have prostatitis and not NGU?  This is so complicated and my life with my family depends on the results of my stupid mistake!

Thanks for your interest and help again.

Yes, those are symptoms of prostatitis.

Bactrim might cure NGU, but if you don't have it, I'm not sure why you are worried about it.

Thanks for the comment.  I have been prescribed Bactrim 60 days by my Urologist and was just wondering if it would also be good against NGU, not that I have it.  Please tell me your understanding of whether it would cure it if I had a recurrent case.  Back to the past post where I was unsure of what was going on due to a strictly oral exposure...I had a GC and Chl test and was negative.  Symptoms are still there though and sometimes worst after a bunch of Bactrim.

I and my partner were treated concurrently with Levaquin, 500mg 1 per day, me 30 days and she 7 days.  Wouldn't that have also cured any NGU if I had gotten it?

You seem knowledgeable...what does NGU discharge look like?  I have a very clear hardly noticeable sticky fluid in with my urine (hardly noticeable unless you inspect every drop of urine).  It looks and feels just like seminal fluid that comes out when you're aroused. It does not spontaneously leak and I have no stained underwear but if I look it is there most of the time.  Can this be a sypmtom of my prostatitis...which is a confirmed case?

Thanks a bunch for your opinion...

This isn't the doctor's forum, and you'd need to post your own thread in that forum to get Dr. Hook to clarify it.

I can say that taking meds for something you haven't been diagnosed with through a doctor's exam and testing is not a good idea.

In reading your older posts, I see you have a prostatitis diagnosis, and were wondering about gonorrhea.  You said you had taken levaquin for the prostate exam, and the dose you took would have more than cured chlamydia.  If you are still having symptoms, you need to follow up with your doctor, rather than self treat.
