concerned

I am a 30 year old male and  had protected sex (vaginal intercourse) with a female sex worker. A day later I started having discomfort in my penis and had some pain after an ejaculation. This immediately concerned me given my interaction w/the sex worker. I had some left-over Amoxicillin and began taking that for about a week, but symptoms persisted. I began having a weak urine stream, discomfort after urination, and some pain in the base of my urethra. I went to the doctor and he tested for Gon/Chl/ and bladder infection; all negative. He treated me empirically for these infections anyways, gave me a shot in the arm and I took 4 zithro pills. My symptoms persisted, mainly feeling like I had to urinate, or had not fully relieved myself, especially when sitting down. The doctor then suggested this may be a prostate infection, and I began treatment with Doxycycline twice a day. Symptoms improved initially, pain in urethra went away, but the urge to urinate, weak stream, and discomfort persisted. 20 days after the initial symptoms, my primary care physician did a FULL STD test, HIV included. All tests came back negative, and the doctor put me on Cipro for prostatitis. I took Cipro for 4 weeks, but haven't seen much progress. I am also experiencing a significant amount of anxiety about my exposure. I am certain that I used a condom and there was no penetration without a condom in place- BUT it still seems that I may have contracted something. Obviously my major anxiety surrounds the possibility of contracting HIV. I am going to see my doctor again, but the past week or so I have been experiencing vivid dreams, night sweats, have recently had a mild sore throat, post nasal drip, and had a few canker/mouth ulcers pop up, so needless to say I am thinking the absolute worst. This is furthered by the fact that I have a long-term girlfriend, so my guilt level is through the roof.

While my HIV anti-body test was negative, it was only 20 days after the sexual interaction. I am pretty sad about this whole situation, as I thought I was being safe with the use of a condom. Maybe there was a hole in the condom or something- either way- I am now very concerned. I was wondering if you could comment on my situation, and let me know if my urinary symptoms could be something unrelated to the sexual encounter. I have yet to test positive for any infection, but the prostate infection symptoms persist, and are furthering my fears about HIV given I have been experiencing night sweats and canker sores.

Oh if this further continue to bother you, you can always take another panel later down the road for psychological relief, but, I tell you, you really have nothing to worry about at all.

You had a protected affair and thus no risk for any type of infection including HIV.
