drug resistant chlamydia?

Hi there,

I'm in a third world country and can't really get tested right now but do have access to antibiotics. Intend to get tested for everything in a few weeks when I return home.

In the meantime, I'm fairly certain I have chalmydia. That is redness and swelling around the urethral meatus (I'm a man) itchy and burning urethra and painful urination (all of which are mild except for the redness.) There is a significant amount of discharge and it seems white in the morning and clear the rest of the time.

I'm on my 4th day of antibiotics and there has been little or no improvement. Also my eyes are burning now and they're a little red.

I've taken three doses of 500mg of Azythromicine and 200mg of Doxicycline twice daily for 4 days. Besides the obvious (get tested) which, as I said, I'll be able to do in a few weeks, is there anything else I could try? Should I give these antibiotics more time? Should I try a different one?

Thanks

I had a culture taken from my urethra on October 21st (about a month and a half ago.) I had neither chlamydia gonorrhea. They found:

Haemophilus Influenzae (abundant quantity)
Enterococcus Faecalis (regular quantity)

(Names of drugs are in Spanish but almost the same as the English ones)

Sensitive:
amoxicilina with clavulinic acid, vancomicina

resistent: cefalotina, clindamicina, eritromicina, gentamicina, tetracilina, azitromicina

The doctor put me on 7 days of amoxicilina with clavulinic acid (875mg twice daily.) After that the discharge stopped and there was a noticeable reduction in pain upon urination however the redness surrounding the urethral meatus persisted and there is still some pain and irritation upon urination and ejaculation. I repeated the amoxiciclin treatment (having stopped for 5 days between the two) and it seemed to help a little but the symptoms persisted.

The doc gave me a combination drug. Each tablet contains 33.3mg of itraconazol and 166mg of secnidazol. I took 2 tablets twice daily for three days. There was no effect.

He has now put me on Mictasol. Each tablet contains norfloxacino and fenazopiridina. 400 mg twice daily for 7 days. My urine is red. That seems to be the only thing its doing. The symptoms persist.

The doc seems to think the amoxocillin killed one of the two bugs but not the other and that another treatment of amoxicillin wouldn't help.

Would you agree?

I'm going on vacation for a month, leaving tomorrow. Is this something that can wait until I get back or should I act immediately and what do you suggest I try next?

Thank you

You would be on the correct medication for chlamydia, but without a diagnosis can't help you much more and can't give you medication advice either.
