Chlamydia symptoms with negative test results

Hello. I am a 25 year old male who was diagnosed with chlamydia about three years ago and respectively treated. Since then, however, I have experienced periodic, sharp urethral pains and have seen several urologists for this. Each test has come back negative for STD's and UTI's. The pains still remain and have recently been accompanied by penile changes to include softening and flattening out. I also noticed an unusual swelling of my urethra after ejaculation and transition from erect to flaccid. My new girlfriend was also recently tested and her results came back positive for chlamydia. The last time we had sex was one month ago and I had a urine test since then that came back negative for infection. My questions are (1) Can my symptoms be due to a chronic chlamydia infection that reflects a false negative result? (2) What kind of tests should be done to test this? and (3) What other reasons could be causing my symptoms? Any feedback helps. This has changed me from a very happy, out-going young man to a depressed, unsocial, anxious, basket case.

odds are you are just hyper aware of your genital area ever since having contracted a std.

you've been seen and been told nothing is wrong.  perhaps what you are feeling is really "normal" and just things you never worried about before this?  Your urethral opening will change in appearance during different activities as well as due to things like irritation too.

also look at your pants too. sometimes the lower waisted pants can cause issues while sitting. they can actually put pressure on nerves in the pelvic area and cause pain!

Thanks for the response. I just wonder why I never had any urethral problems/discomfort prior to contracting chlamydia, but have had this ever since, which was several years ago, even though I have been treated and tested negative several times. And now the physical changes are really scaring the crap out of me. The scariest part is that all the doctors I have seen tell me that everything is normal and a couple have even had the nerve to tell me it's all in my head. I'm not crazy. I know my body and this is not normal for me. I am a college educated person with a good head on my shoulders. If this wasn't a big deal, I wouldn't turn it into one. I just want my old "parts" back!

you tested negative for chlamydia. your new gf evidently had it prior to you.  no reason to think any ofyour std symptoms are std related at all actually.

continuing to follow up with your urologist is the best thing you can do.
