mild syphilis symptoms

about 5 years ago I had a risky sexual encounter with a woman I just recently found out had syphilis at the time.  At this point I already had herpes.  After the exposure I got a reoccuring sore on my chin which I thought was just the herpes having moved to my face through oral sex.  Over the last year i have experienced a lot of the more nerve based symptoms of syphilis and am awaiting test results.  What I'm wondering is what could have caused the very mild syphilis symptoms my wife and I have had over these last five years.  going through them now I can see that we did have them but they were so much milder than what I had seen.  They say that syphilis rarely gets to the third stage because its identified and dealt with much earlier but all of the real obvious symptoms were either much milder than what you would expect or not there.  Is there any particular reason my wife and I would experience such a unique presentation of this disease

Syphilis on the chin...unheard of because of the skin on the chin is very tough. Rash would happen within months not years.

Well it was on the chin because of oral sex. That lesion was pretty typical just not in the usual location. As far as the rash my wife and I boy got it but a few years later and it was mild and only covered the upper torso and wasn't even there a whole day. My test results will be back soon but I didn't know if anyone had heard of less than alarming symptoms

No such thing as mild symptoms. 1st you get a large canker where the infection enters the body, 2nd you get a rash. Your chin would have nothing to do with syphilis.

I am not convinced you have syphilis.
