urethritis

In February, it felt like like razor blades when I was urinating (I am a 38 y/o female).  First I was diagnosed with a yeast infection and treated with diflucan and metrinazole, no better.  I got a second round of treatment and it helped somewhat, but not much.  My Dr. and I both surmised it may have had something to do with the depo shot, as this had been right after my 2nd shot.  I began using probiotics and candex (natural remedies) with some relief.  Then in May it was back with a vengenance.  He then thought UTI, and prescribed Cipro, with minimal results.  I went back in and now Dr. says it's Urethritis.  I took a 1 day 1000mg of zithro and have 4 more days of 100 2x day of doxy to take, but I still have slight burning.  Is this normal and when will I be able to pee without feeling pain???  Do I need something stronger?  Have I had this going on the whole time and maybe was not treating it correctly way back in February?  Should the Doxycycline have made a huge improvement by now, or am I being impatient?  Do I wait a few more days or go back in and ask for something different?  I am so tired of not being able to just go to the bathroom without stressing out about the burning......please help!

If its a 7 day course, it might take the full 7 days to fully improve.  3 days isn't all that long.

I got the urine culture last Wednesday and Monday they reported no  growth.  So, I guess I will call and request the blood test.  I was just figuring with 4 days left on the doxycycline, the burning should be gone by now?

I would by blood test, and make sure he tests your urine for bacteria.  Have him send it out and get cultured.

Well, I have the pain every time I go to the bathroom, so I guess I need to call my doctor today.  I am to ask to be tested for herpes, correct?  specifically by blood test?

Ask your doctor about the above possibility. If it is herpes, there is medication that can speed recovery and suppress recurrences.

You should get tested for Herpes via type specific blood test and a swab the next time you have the pain. It could be a herpetic infection. That would not respond to antibiotics and may recur.
