uti symptoms.....but no uti?

For the past 2 weeks, i have had burning when i urinate, and the frequent urge to go often and it feeling like nothing comes out. It feels just like a uti, which i get often. First i took septra, my mom had some extra ones and i was desperate. After 4 days it still wasn't getting better so i went to the doctor. Since i had antibiotics in my system, the urine test came back negative for a uti. So the doctor gave me cipro to take for 7 days and told me she was going to send my urine off for culture. Well i have been on the cipro now for 3 days and it still hurts everytime i urinate. I'm really confused because i don't understand what else this could be. I have thought about STD's, but i am married and am monogamous on my part. My husband has cheated in the past, but he is not going to admit it if he has recently. If it were an STD, would there be other symptoms? Would the cipro get rid of it? Would the urine culture show an STD? Should i go back to the doctor and get tested for STD's? I am about to rip my hair out! please help!

Well after i posted this i decided that i couldn't take it anymore, and i went to an urgent care clinic. They took my blood and are sending it for testing, So i should know within 2 or 3 days if it is anything to be concerned about. The doctor told me to stop the cipro, and he prescribed me doxycycline 100 mg for 10 days. I have only taken one and already have noticed some relief. I don't want to speak too soon though so we will see how i feel tomorrow! thanx for the advice

At this point, pick up some otc urinary pain relief tablets. They are really helpful with th epain. If you've never used them before, know that they turn your urine bright orange and can also stain your underwear.

I'd also give the clinic a call tomorrow and let them know that you aren't feeling any better. I fyou are concerned that you might have a std and not know it, ask them if you can come in for testing. Also be sure to specifically request herpes blood testing too though if this is a newly acquired herpes infection, it can take weeks/months until it shows up on your blood test.

You can get one symptom or 2 or 3 or none with a STD. Cipro might cure gonorrhea or chlymida. You would have to wait about 2 weeks after the cipro is finished so you do not get a false negative.

I would finish the medication and if things are better then not worry about it. If things are not better or symptoms come back then follow up with your Dr and test for STD's.
