Writer needs advice re:

Realistic outcome of fictional hostage scenario in S.America.  Adult female suffers some physical/much sexual abuse for a few (???)  weeks; stops eating.  (This is handled sensitively)  Is there a realistic situation where she would be near death... comatose, skeletal.  Maybe  malaria or some other malady entering into it?

Thanks for responding.  Yeah, that's exactly why I did come here.  Looking, as much as possible for 'factual information regarding an attempt at a fictional but real situation.  Just as I was looking for flying/piloting information and went to an airline pilots forum.  I understand I had to be brief in my descriptions.  I was just trying to find out if the scenario would, or could in reality bring about that outcome.  No author wants to try to describe a situation and have people, especially professionals come back and say; "No, that just couldn't happen."  I hope that is understandable.  That is all I was looking for.  I would have far rather had an acquaintance in medicine who I could have discussed it with in more detail.

Since this is your story, I'd say keep imagining!  That scenario sounds plausible - you should really be asking this question in some other forum (for writers maybee?)  This forum is for factual solutions to real problems! :-)
