I've had this mole for for at least 3-4 years now...

I first noticed this mole 3-4 years ago just above my hip.  I may have had it longer.  I did pick at it once not knowing what it was 2 years ago.  It bled after doing so.  It feels rough to touch.  It is identical in texture, shape, and color as it was years ago.

I just mildly scraped at it with a pumice stone prior to taking the picture.  It removed parts from the left and right of it.  Normally it has a fairly solid dark brown colored eye like shape.  I think the top layer is dark brown and the bottom is a light brown.  It got this way because I made an effort not to touch it at all for the last 2 years.  If I continued to use the pumice stone, it would have the smoother lighter colored texture on the left and right side of it.

Any chance this could be something bad?  I have no insurance, so I'd like to know for certain if it is something I definitely want removed and biopsied.

Well it's fairly even in colour and relatively symetrical but it does kind of bleed into the surrounding skin. It is a good sign that it isn't changing. How about leaving it alone for a while but show a doctor. A good one shouldn't need to biopsy unless they are a little unsure of what it is.

I can't even imagine what it must be like to live in a place where insurance or money dictates what you do about your health. Where I live anything serious or acute is funded. Happens more slowly than private care but still you get the treatment.

Take care.

I forgot to add, the picture is brighter than it looks because I had a flashlight on it.
