Dr Wont give me copy of my rx

Had sleep study, left study with a sleep apnea machine, discovered it would cost me $140 a month, have high insurance deductible so shopped online and found same machine brand new fraction of the price, called my sleep doc for a copy of my prescription....was told "its against policy to give you a copy, we don't approve of obtaining your equipment elsewhere"
DO I NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO THE RX AND TO CHOOSE WHERE TO PURCHASE IT?

Aren't doctors are required by law (HIPAA?) to give patients a copy of their Rx?  I had a link to the law somewhere, but now I can't find it.

The rules may be different in your state, but in NY, it's perfectly acceptable to request a CPAP prescription from your sleep doctor so you can order it on your own, from where ever you wish.
