shaking while asleep

I have been having odd experiences while asleep. Its hard to explain but here it is the best i can describe. In the mid of the night, I wake up to the feeling of vibrations/shaking of my body and the bed, my eyes have to be open becasue i can see but cant move them, ill have a major feeling of fear for a couple seconds, but cant move a bit....then it will go away and i feel exhausted, dizzy and just icky all around. and Im tingling a lil after it. I thought at first this could be sleep paralysis, but im not seeing creepy things or anything like that, just my bedroom.

Could this be seizures??

My personal experience is that I was having apnea events during REM when I had sleep paralysis.  I have only experienced it once or twice since starting apnea therapy (CPAP) and have been able to correlate it with the data from my machine that, yup, I was having an apnea when it happened.

Have you had a sleep study done?  Do you have symptoms of apnea?  It's worth checking out.  I'm glad I did.  I feel SO much better now.

Doctors say it is a health condition and people of religion and religious science believe it is the devil (or other evil force) trying to get at you..

I believe the later... Its the only thing that makes sense to me.

Hi There,

I suffer from this too and have been (on and off) for years now. I, like you, do not see anything but have ALOT of fear that something is in my room trying to kill me. I have spoken to medical professionals and they all say it is either caused by alcohol (or drug) consumption or irregular sleep patterns.

I know your pain because I go through this and there is nothing more frightening than it. And, this condition has been documented through history. They used to call it 'old hag syndrome' because they depicted it as a large women (in spirit form) laying on top of you so you could not move.

Can we get some doctors in here to answer this question because this is one of the reasons I joined this forum..

Thank you!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
It's difficult to tell based on your history, but you may want to see a neurologist and sleep medicine doctor about it if it doesn't get better.
