ALWAYS TIRED

I really am at a loss.  I have done 2 rounds of blood work over the past four months and I am just completely frustrated.  I am currently on weekly B12 shots for a B12 deficiency.  The doctor told me in August so I did this for 6 weeks and then re-tested in December...my levels went up slightly.  So I am back on these weekly shots.  Here, lies the real issue.  I think this is masking something else.  I had my second back surgery in February and have not felt the same since.  I even requested part time working after my recovery becuase I could not stop falling asleep during mid-day.  This still is going on.  I changed jobs to one closer to my home and every day I go and sleep for my lunch hour and feel like I could continue to sleep the entire rest of the day and night.  There is a "MAJOR" urge of needing to sleep and I can't get enough.  I have been through what I would call a depression several years ago and I jsut don't feel like this is the same thing.  I just think it is odd how it all started after my last surgery.  They did all the bloodwork for anemia, thyroid, blood counts, etc.  I even had a period last 13 weeks in the midst of all of this.  My last one was only 2 weeks, but I think this is all very strange healthwise for my last year.  I have always been very active, never needed too much sleep (I was in public accounting, so i worked many hours) and jsut do not understand what is going on!  I cannot emphasize enought the constant urge for an immediate sleep of any amount although I get very frustrated if it cannot be more than an hour or so.  I would love 2 and 3 hours at a time.  I just want to research this more and get the doctors to run more tests, becuase this is really affecting my quality of life...

sorry so long!

Hi,

You need to calm down and relax. I can understand how upset you must be right now.

Could you tell us about the surgeries and why did you have them , i mean what was the diagnosis? Also, are you on any other medication currently?

From what you describe, it would be best if you could see a sleep specialist at the earliest. A clinical evaluation is most important before a probable diagnosis.

IF required your specialist may ask you to get a sleep study test done. You will then be put on certain medications to help you deal with your symptoms and fall back into the normal sleep cycle pattern.

I know this must be frustrating, but it does have a solution. You would not many more blood tests now. Just consult a sleep specialist.

Do keep us posted.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
